The food is different for those of us not born and raised in Louisiana. But different can be good. There are pros and cons depending on your tastes. It's fun to go with your family, so you're not shy about asking them for a taste. I have to say I did not enjoy the coleslaw. It was of good quality but I am used to my coleslaw being slightly sweet and creamy but their's is neither. Everything else was delicious! I had the Shrimp Platta with Slap Ya Daddy Fries which was excellent. My niece had the Red Beans and Rice which was the best I have ever tasted. My younger sister got the all you can eat Catfish which was also delicious. And my youngest sister got the Crawfish Etouffee and B'z Boudin Ballz which I and my family had never even heard of (and we grew up all over this country). And even though, they act like everybody knows what it is, on the menu, we had to google it. I must say, the Etouffee was delicious! The Boudin Ballz were a little too hot for my taste. Might try them again after I lose a few more taste buds. There are some other things on the menu I would like to try. I have two complaints. The first was not the restaurants fault. It is a very small place and some people came in with a screaming child and just started their meal, somehow ignoring the screaming child. Wish I could have tuned it out like they obviously could. It pretty much ruined the whole dinning experience and we left as soon as we could, talking outside until we got cold. They do have outdoor seating and I wish that family had had some sense of decency and had gotten their food to go and taken it and their screaming child home or at least sat outside. But no such luck. It's like the people who bring their screaming child to the movies or a play. My other complaint was that there was no dessert. And to be fair there is none on the menu. But I had read that sometimes there is a delicious homemade dessert or two but it usually runs out fast. We got there at 5:30 pm but it was already gone. Darn it! Please start making...
Read moreUPDATE: They have Tabasco now!!! Yay. Just tried the T-boy appetite. Holy yum!! It was delicious and so filling!
Their cocktails are off the hook. Espresso martini was shaken to perfection. The smoky old fashion has the big block ice. Louisiana Iced Tea was surprisingly refreshing!
Love taking people here when we are in town. Met one of the owners a few times and told him how much we love this place!
Lots of recommendations from the local NSU football parents to try this place.
Came on a Friday night at 8pm. No wait, plenty of tables. Greeted by a friendly host who sat us at our table.
Ordered a smoky old fashion. sooooooo good.
Appetizers were chargrilled oysters and gator bites. Had to try something new like gator. Tastes like chicken. Really yummy. Chargrilled oysters were good but a bit salty. They needed Tabasco but we were told they don’t have any. Isn’t that a Louisiana thing?
Dinner was shrimp & grits for the boys, Cajun pasta for me. Shrimp & grits were good. Again, needed Tabasco. They do have Louisiana hot sauce but not the same.
Cajun pasta had good flavor but was really salty.
No room for dessert but they did sound amazing!
Next time I’ll bring my own Tabasco because we WILL...
Read moreI have eaten a lot of Cajun food in Louisiana and Texas and this restaurant is on par with some of the best I have had. They had several lunch specials, but I decided to really get a good sampling of their food, so I chose the Mardi gras (a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo, crawfish etouffee , a boudin ball and slaw). It was all delicious, except for the boudin ball. The boudin ball was amazing! What stood out was the smoked meat in the boudin ball, the crispy outer shell and the spicy sauce it came with. These things are unbelievable! The Chicken and sausage gumbo was loaded with chicken. There is no doubt the roux was made with bacon grease. It had that great rich smoky bacon flavor. It was excellent as was the slaw! The crawfish etouffee, was a little light on crawfish, but it was still very good! The other thing that was a little disappointing was the difficulty in finding a bottle of Louisiana hot sauce to add heat to the meal. I did find a bottle on another table, but it was almost empty. You have to have ample bottles of Louisiana hot sauce or Tabasco on the tables for folks that like Cajun food! This is most likely the best Cajun food you will find...
