Quick details - food is really tasty. The streak fingers are amazing. Price is fair for the portions they give which are generous.
Full Review - So the restaurant is overall wonderful. Here is a break down of the major things I look at.
Food - I had a steak fingers meal full size. I chose mashed potatoes as my side. The steak fingers are amazing. They take a sirloin I think and cut it into strips and then a batter like chicken fried steak and cook it. It was tender with a great batter seasoned flavor. They give a side of white country gravy with pepper with it as well. The salad bar was decent but stocked with things I personally didn't prefer but it was fresh. Only nitpick is the ranch was watery a bit.
Cleanliness - place was spotless and in good repair.
Staff - Only one person runs the front. She was a bit standoffish but considering all she was doing that is understandable. She was friendly enough and definitely busy but still found time to refill our drinks without us even asking when she saw them low. So staff gets a great rating overall.
Decor - this is a small roadside diner. The decorations reflect that but some pictures of the staffs family behind the counter it has a nice personal feel to it. Tables and chairs are no frill standards. Overall it is fantastic for what it is. If you were expecting something more or decorations matter then perhaps stopping here isn't for you.
Final thoughts - great food and value. Friendly overall staff and clean. Wonderful stop for a good bite to eat and take a break...
Read moreThis website states that they close at 8:30, and I walked in at 7:30. I didn't notice the handwritten sign on the door stating 8pm until after I finished my meal, payed and walked out. Coming from someone who has managed a restaurant, having someone come in 30 minutes before closing time and ordering steak and fries is not always a welcome sight.
However, she promptly took my order as if they were gonna be open for another 3 hours! Their salad bar was still up and stocked. The large cut fries were cooked perfectly and didn't require the typical side of ketchup, as the juices of the steak seasoned them quite well. The sirloin was not the best steak that I've ever had, but certainly NOT near the worst. Again, I walked in 30 minutes before closing. The meal certainly was satisfying!
Knowing that they're closing, she still bothered to ask me if I'd like some pie. If it weren't for my intolerance to gluten, I would've taken her up on that offer because the pies...
Read moreUsed to be a priority stop on our annual trip to Ruidoso! Stopped by on way to Ruidoso an was closed. Made sure to come by on way home back to Texas and were treated awful. We’re told to wait as locals continued to fill empty tables. Finally got a table for my parents and children to sit at. My dad was asked to put a chair back that wasn’t being used and asked why and the waitress (which I used to feel bad for and over tip, no more) huffed and walked away. Meanwhile me and my wife were still waiting and being ignored so we all ended up leaving. I understand having a bad day, but when the customer is going out of the way to try and get seated! That’s a problem! So we went on to Plains kept our money and support for small business in Texas and ate at PT Tacos behind the school there. Awesome food and appreciative service!! Check them out you won’t be...
