We chose The Birch for our 10th anniversary and it started off great. The server was quick to take our drink orders and said he'd be back for our food order. At the same time, a group of six ladies walked in and our server was also assigned to their table. Our drinks came fast and we told the server we needed a bit more time to order. After about 15 minutes, and after server giving a lot of attention to the other table, our server came back. We ordered two shareable plates, a salad, and a sandwich. After ordering switched tables because of some tiny bugs coming from a nearby tree crawling all over us. No big deal, that's nature for you. Around 25 minutes later, our shareable plates arrived. We noticed other customers who came in after us already had their drinks and meals. We shrugged it off, thinking our salad and sandwich would arrive soon. Meanwhile, our server was hustling for the table of six and barely checked on us. After another wait, we noticed that a couple who took our old table had their full meals while we were still waiting. I sighed, gave it another few minutes, hoping our food would come before I had to say something. But our server was too focused on the other table and seemed to be avoiding us.
When he finally came around bringing food for another couple that arrived after us, I asked, "Is our salad and sandwich coming?" He said, "I think it's on its way." So I told him, "If it's not, please take it off our order. If it's ready, just box it up, please, thank you." Five minutes later, our boxed-up food came out with the check, everything at full price. If a customer says to box up a meal they ordered and intended to eat at the restaurant, probably should inquire about something possibly wrong. I was bummed, not because I expected a discount, but because I wanted some acknowledgement that we had been clearly overlooked.
So, I did something I usually never do - I went to talk to the manager. Just not my type of thing to raise a stink, but it was our anniversary… so I explained what happened and she was super nice, as were some other servers that noticed same and supported my story. She understood the issue and made it right. This is why I'd go back to The Birch. I feel like she represented what the place is really about, and even though it wasn't necessary to take that much off, it was much appreciated acknowledgment. I don’t necessarily want the waiter to get in trouble but just a learning opportunity to not neglect tables for possibly bigger tipping tables.. even if it was a subconscious thing. If it was a genuine mistake, be accountable, it goes a long way. … we’ll still be back, thank you...
Read moreStopped in Saturday for lunch and had an exceptional experience. Nice clean atmosphere. I sat at the bar but there were multiple tables of people sitting outside in a lovely courtyard. Server and GM both connected with me multiple times to check on how I was doing. Had a bowl of the soup of the day, which was delicious and could easily tell it was thoughtfully prepared. Then had the croque madame which was a very large plate. The turkey, being smoked, had a lot of flavor and paired well with the mornay sauce which it was covered in. I opted for the side of potatoes and got it with the ‘house sauce’ which was finger licking good. It was a very filling and large plate and I would definitely recommend. I’m excited to go back and currently unsure if I would try something different since the croque madam was so delicious…bowl of soup, sandwich and potatoes, and two glasses of...
Read moreWe had a fantastic experience at The Birch in Terrace Park. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a cozy vibe that made for a relaxing evening.
Our server was exceptional—knowledgeable, attentive, and incredibly thoughtful. I have to watch my sodium intake due to a heart condition, and he went above and beyond to help us navigate the menu to find options that worked for me without sacrificing flavor. That level of care really stood out.
The food was excellent across the board. The standout for us were the stuffed peppers to start—absolutely amazing and I highly recommend! Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and perfectly prepared. They also have great cocktails. Try the Anchorman, trust me.
We’ll definitely be back. The Birch is a true gem in...
