Covalt Station — Restaurant in Milford

It's OK. Using the Little Miami Brewery concept where you basically serve yourself, except LMB is way over priced. Tried the shrimp burger and fries, which were good. Beers are unusually small, guess they want you to order two at a time. The place is small in general. You walk in and you're right next or on top of someone who is sitting at a table or the bar. They suggest finding a table first or you'll be standing eating your food. You stand in line to order your food at the bar, then they text you when food is ready. Then you go back up to get your food that's sitting on a table next to the bar..also where everyone is standing to order. My only concern..is this a health violation issue? I'm not sure. What if someone wants some of my fries and decides to swipe a few, or gets bumped into my food, or coughs on it? Not sure if staffing issue, but they could at least not make you have to go back in to pickup your food or having it sitting on a table next to everyone standing in line. We haven't been here since they originally opened, as our original impression was it's good, but nothing too special or unique. Tonight we decided to give it a try again. It was crowded and they sat us outside on their patio on a picnic table bench. Service was somewhat slow, and they said an unexpected rush caught them off guard and they were not staffed properly. However, the server passed us on several occasions and didn't even acknowledge us or say I'll be with you in a minute. That would have made a difference knowing that we had been seen. We ordered the smoked trout dip. Although tasty, no smoke flavor at all, therefore it was good, but our expectations wanted it to be great. We decided to share the Italian, and it left us with similar impressions. Good, nothing out of the ordinary, but it wasn't a destination sandwich. We also ordered a side of fries, oddly enough, we were most impressed by the french fries, thin, crisp, and deep fried perfectly. Based on the reviews I was not excited to try this place. Menu looked limited, service was supposed to be poor, not thrilling. Thank goodness those reviews were completely wrong! First, the dollar bills all over the walls and the general theme is cozy, quirky, and fun. Our server was darling and could not have been nicer or more helpful. She recommended the Covalt salad which was delightful! My friend got the black bean burger which she loved. We split a truffle fry order which was huge we couldn't even finish it, they were seriously amazing fries!!! Our waitress also recommended the margarita which was also a delight. We had an awesome time, it was so fun and we can't wait to visit again!!!!!! Don't hesitate, just go! If I had any criticism I would suggest changing up the salad, mix the arugula with a butter blend lettuce, a whole salad of arugula is kind of a lot of arugula but I really enjoyed...
