My visit to Little Bear Coffee CO. in Terre Haute was nothing short of disappointing. Excited to try this highly praised coffee spot, I ordered two vanilla lattes with almond milk, assuming their positive reviews reflected a quality experience. Unfortunately, my optimism was swiftly shattered.
Upon taking my first sip, I was met with a bland, watered-down concoction that resembled drip coffee more than the flavorful vanilla lattes I was expecting. The lack of richness and depth in both taste and texture left me wondering if there had been a mix-up in my order or if this was, in fact, their standard offering.
Dissatisfied and hoping to remedy the situation, I called Little Bear Coffee CO. to request a refund or a remake of my order. To my surprise, I was informed that they don't have a system in place to refund customers and was instead directed to voice my concerns on their Facebook page. This response was not only unprofessional but also raised suspicions about the authenticity of their positive reviews.
The inability to address customer concerns beyond redirecting them to social media suggests a lack of accountability and customer-centric approach. I had assumed that a reputable establishment, especially one with seemingly positive reviews, would prioritize customer satisfaction and swiftly resolve issues.
The entire experience left me questioning the credibility of the glowing reviews that initially drew me to Little Bear Coffee CO. If this encounter is indicative of their typical service and quality, it's clear they may not deserve the acclaim they've garnered. It's disheartening when a highly anticipated visit to a well-reviewed establishment turns out to be a letdown, and I hope others take note of my experience before deciding to give them...
Read moreTheir social media manager (oddly enough their owner also) posted a video with their workers shaking their heads and walking away when they "have a customer that doesn't tip, even after they flirt with them".
I pointed out it wasn't funny and they responded, eventually getting more aggressive and making assumptions. Attached is a screenshot before either taking the video down or blocking me.
I question the logic of the owners business skills when they actively promote this type of behavior.
I hate to say this cause I don't like their business either, but go to Java Haute. The service is better, faster, and the workers are nicer.
FYI to the owner, since you wanted to make a point of it: I worked in the service industry for 11 years as a busser, server, bartender. I know the game. Very well. These are at ACTUAL restaurants, not a coffee shop with coffee shakers.
I always tip my servers, carryout, and batista when they give good service. If you wanted your people to be tipped so bad, maybe don't have your customers sitting in the drive thru for 15 minutes (we were the third car back in the line) only to have our order get messed up anyway at the window. It's a wonder why you have had workers either no call/no show or walk out (yes we can hear your workers talking openly about this behind the counter)
Good luck to your business. I have seen your responses on here to negative posters. Can't wait to see your response to me. A lot of people read reviews before they go to a business, and also how their staff/owners...
Read moreI've only visited once during their soft opening so I'll reserve full judgement for later.
That said, I think it has a ton of potential. It's nice having something in North Terre Haute. The hours are convenient (6 am to 8 pm). There's free WiFi. There's plenty of room to sit. There's even a little play area for kids outside.
Price wise, Little Bear is on par with other coffee shops. You're not buying this coffee because you want a bargain though. You want to treat yourself.
Most importantly (and why I'm withholding judgement), the coffee. The real reason for visiting. If it's not good, why bother? And it was good. It wasn't great. I ordered a peppermint mocha (my favorite cold weather treat). Now a mocha is normally chocolate goodness. But I could barely distinguish the chocolate. The peppermint was non existent. Now I'll admit, this was really early and I only expect it to get better.
Update 5/3/2020 I really want to like Little Bear. It's close to home. It's locally owned. But it's just not good. I purchased a mocha again and again I was disappointed. for a hot beverage, it's tepid The milk has a strange taste. The chocolate lacks the richness I expect. Most coffee shops use Torani and Ghirardelli syrups and sauces. I suspect that Little Bear does not and the drinks suffer. I hope that Little Bear improves but at this point, I don't expect to...
