Wayne's Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Texarkana

Wayne's has persisted for decades, unchanged. It is the same restaurant I remember my grandfather taking me to as a child and I swear only Wayne's and Waffle House will remain in the distant year that our sun swallows the earth, each eternally unchanged.

Wayne's survives like this, as Texarkana residents abandon this area, because it is fantastic. It has always BEEN fantastic, and the fact that I drove 3 hours down almost entirely for this restaurant after nearly 15 years away from it- and that it was exactly the same as I remembered?

Great food at great prices. Husband had the Chicken Fried Steak plate with homemade mashed potatoes, gravy, and toast. It came with a fresh garden salad. He ate it all. I got the fish sandwich (cod) for a change of pace. It came with crinkle cut fries. I also ordered their version of jalapeno "poppers" w/ranch dressing, which I couldn't stop eating. Therefore, I only ate half my sandwich. My fish-hater husband ate the other half 🤣. Bathrooms were immaculately clean with hot water. Found this place through a Google search. I drove up and it looked closed, but lights were on and I could see one person side at a table, so I went to the door. They were open. The young girl at the table was an employee. She was very nice. I ordered the chicken fried with French fries and salad. The lady asked if I wanted brown gravy or white. I said brown. My salad was served first which I really like. Then my entree was brought out. It was chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and covered in white gravy. I didn't really mind because I prefer mashed potatoes, I just didn't know it was an option. The white gravy was good as was the rest of the food....
