I was recently recommended a spot that I’ve never even heard of and now I’m finding myself wishing I’d go restaurant exploring more often lol. Today I had the absolute pleasure of eating at El Norteño Mexican Restaurant.
One thing that really stood out to me was the way I greeted when I first walked in. An older gentleman walked up to me and said hi as he stuck his hand out to shake mine. He then told me I could sit wherever I’d like. I later found out that he was the owner.
Shortly after sitting down, I went over the menu and decided on an entree. The Enchiladas Suiza. They brought some chips and salsa out shortly before I ordered my food. The chips were excellent and so was the salsa.
Not even 10 or 15 minutes after ordering and my food was already coming out. I jumped right in and I honestly didn’t stop until that plate was clean. The food was really that good. The enchiladas had an amazing green sauce and some melted cheese on top. The chicken inside the enchilada was definitely seasoned and surprisingly falling apart tender. Even the rice and beans had a unique, but delicious flavor to them.
Although I know I shouldn’t have, I asked what they had for dessert. The owner told me about their Happy Donut. He described it as a deep fried Mexican donut with ice cream on top. I had to ask for no chocolate drizzle on mine (thanks COVID). It came out shortly after. The donut itself had the perfect texture to it. Nice and crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. The contrast of the warm donut and the cold ice cream was just what I needed.
Overall I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some great authentic Mexican food. The owner seems like a great person, who’s obviously dedicated and passionate about what he does. It was very nice getting to speak with him. I also noticed that he treated everyone with the same level of kindness. From shaking peoples hands as soon as they walked in to going up to tables multiple times and...
Read moreI have stopped in for lunch before, and enjoyed above average food as well as GREAT service from the very friendly employees. However, today I was on my way to work & decided to stop for a couple of breakfast taco's to-go. After I was greeted at the door with a smile (Which always makes a great first impression on me; especially when it is still early in the morning & I couldn't force a smile if I wanted to.) I told the gentleman at the register that I would like to place an order to go. "Breakfast Taco's?", he asked. As for options they offer the standard: Potato & egg, sausage & egg, bacon & egg, or charizo sausage & egg. (Charizo is ALWAYS my breakfast taco/burrito of choice.) I asked if I could order charizo, potato, egg, & cheese; even though it was not on the menu, and they had no problem with that. In addition to FOUR breakfast taco's; I ordered a large coffee & a cup of rice pudding.
Please know that one of my weaknesses is a "taco cart" "taco shack" style breakfast taco, & I have ordered them all over Texas, the USA, Mexico, and every other destination that I have been to.
These were the best breakfast taco's that I have eaten ANYWHERE. The Servers & other employees are all VERY FRIENDLY. Now for the big one... Monday - Friday; THE BREAKFAST TACO'S ARE ONLY $1.00 EACH!!!
As I'm sure you can tell from my review; there will be many more breakfast taco's from J. El Norteno in my future.
Please get out and support our local & family owned restaurants &...
Read moreToday, Saturday 10/2/2021 was the first and last time we will ever go to El Norteño located on Gentry! We placed our order, then my husband realized his didn't tell the waitress he wanted chicken in his quesadillas. So, we called her back. These quesadillas were on the appetizers menu. They brought him a complete dinner plate. They put onions, bell peppers mixed with the chicken in the quesadillas Not good.. I asked for menudo with posol in it... Don't ever request it unless you ask for a sample first!!! When they brought it out there was no posol in it, first taste was GROSS! Tasted like Caldo de Pescado with pieces of menudo... We got up paid & asked to speak to manager, when he came in we explained that the menudo tasted like Caldo de pescado, he never denied what we said, but he was mocking my disabled husband. (the way he expressed himself) He said that the situation would be fixed he refunded our money. And never again...
