I'm not a big Mexican food fan. When given the choice, Mexican is last on my list. However, because we are spending time in Texas, as close to Mexico as we ever have been, my wife insisted on getting Mexican. La Plazita was on our way back to our resort. I was pleasantly surprised. My wife loved it.
If we hadn't set our GPS device for directions, I would have missed it. It is a bit set back from the road with a small parking lot in front. It is next door to a BBQ place and there are bushes between them that made it hard to see from the road. It has covered outdoor seating that did not appear to be in use. Inside was a lot bigger than expected. There is nothing spectacular about the interior. It looked like a simple restaurant.
Our waiter was fantastic. He was responsive to all of our questions. He made great suggestions which my wife found very helpful. He was very friendly and courteous.
Our son's order was simple. He got the nachos with cheese and beef. There was nothing out of the ordinary about it. Our teenage daughter got chicken enchiladas that was blanketed with cheese. She scoffed it down leaving a little excess cheese to scrap up with the complimentary nachos that were left. My wife got the carne asada which was beef covered with onions. The beef was a bit salty but all of the beef I have tasted in Texas seemed a bit too salty. I got the lunch-time fajita combo with chicken and beef and corn tortillas. All of the meals came with rice and beans. I stuffed my face with five fajitas (my son had the sixth one). The additional hot sauce and sour cream made each fajita tasty. When I was done I felt as if I were at a KFC as the fajitas were finger-licking good. They provide homemade guacamole but I can't eat it. My wife had it with her meal and loved it. Her meal came with a salad that consisted of lettuce, tomato, radish and cilantro. She thought it had a bit too much cilantro.
La Plazita offers breakfast and dinner as well. It is open...
Read moreI went to La Plazita yesterday and I read online about how wonderful the food was and that I wouldn't be disappointed. So my husband and I went since we were starving after my doctor's appointment. We drove all the way across Tyler to get to this restaurant. We walked in. It was pretty nice but it was like sitting outside since it was a concrete building with no installation. It went from good to bad when I took the first bite of their "salsa". If you've ever eaten a Lunchable with those little pizzas and little packets of pizza sauce in it, then you know exactly how their salsa taste. Just like Lunchables pizza sauce. It was absolutely terrible. I still ate it. I was so hungry I really didn't care. I got their sweet tea. It wasn't for me. I'm a real sweet tea drinker like from Chicken Express. So that was no good to my taste. I ordered what was number one on their favorites list. Let me tell you. It was like eating enchiladas stuffed with Wolf Brand chili. AWFUL. The other thing that I noticed about the enchiladas is that they had "American Cheese" on there. It was actually just melted sliced Borden cheese. The only thing that I can say that was absolutely delicious was their rice! Now that was damn good. Even though my husband and I were starving when we got there we barely ate anything on our plates. And we paid over $20 for something that I wouldn't ever eat again. The restaurant's staff were so sweet and nice. I didn't have the guts to tell them that their food was barely editable to me. I love all types of Mexican food. But I will NEVER think about going back there again. Also. I'm not a picky eater whatsoever. I was just so shocked at...
Read moreWalked in at 3:20pm and half the chairs are up on the tables. Was directed to the booth closest to the doors and register. Its hot by the doors. Asked to sit at a booth further away. Told the area is closed...look I love this place for their food, but thats just terrible. I get it you close at 5pm everyday and want to get out at a decent time but its only 3:20pm on Friday.
3yrs ago: This place never disappoints! The Monterey fajita combo was on point! The beef fajita was so tender that it could be cut with a fork. The chicken was juicy and there were plenty of veggies an mushrooms. The portions are big, we shared this between 2 people and had a hard time finishing it. I absolutely love the chips and salsa. It's one of Tyler's well...
