Had a late lunch there today after fishing on Lake Conroe... Huge menu overall; very large lunch menu as well at very good prices... I had the Tacos al Carbon (mixed) and my fishing buddy had the Quesadillas... I think they were $10.99 each... The food was very fresh, very tasty, and with very generous portions... I don't think my photo does the portion size justice; it was a big plate... I'll definitely be back!
Update... I went back this past weekend; a couple of times actually... The first time I ordered the Tacos al Carbon again... I also overheard them being ordered at two tables next to me... It does seem that I am not the only one that really likes these... Also, the next day (Yes, I was back again) I wanted to try something different so I tried the Beef Stuffed Avocado... It was another Home Run... It was extremely creamy and it came with a very good chicken tortilla soup (with a good portion of chicken that was not hidden) and a beef taco carbon... Man, this place is good....
Also, added a photo of the Raspberry Chipotle Chicken..
Update - 1-May-2023 Had lunch with my grandson after fishing... We had a Large Queso, Fajitas, and Taco al Carbons... The fajita meat was very good, but I was really disappointed in the quantity of the tortillas used to make the fajitas... They serve only 3 tortillas that are small to medium in size... I asked for one more and was told I would need to order at least the minimum of 3 more... Wow, I was really surprised that they would not just bring out an extra tortilla... After discussing this with the waiter and expressing my dissatisfaction, I did end up ordering them and paying an additional charge, an upcharge of almost 15% just for the tortilla I needed to finish making the fajitas.... I've eaten fajitas at many places and never paid extra to get enough tortillas, only one in this case, to make fajitas from the meat they served! Hence, I am lowering my rating... To me, this is...
Read moreWe visited this location based on a couple recommendations to us, looking for food similar to that found on the west coast. The parking lot is right off the street and we almost missed it once we crossed the bridge over Lake Conroe. When we arrived, and it was not busy and we were seated immediately. Every one of the employees we contacted were smiling and very kind, they asked if we needed anything multiple times during the meal. The restaurant was clean and very colorful. Music was playing but not too loud. We ordered the chicken enchilada with beans and rice, and the chicken/beef chimichanga with beans and rice and a bowl of gravy. They brought out chips and salsa. The salsa gave me a new experience. It was warm which I have never had before, and it had a taste similar to vegetable soup. The chips had good flavor and the salsa was good too. Neither were the best I've had. The food came out and was not very hot. The chicken enchiladas, beans, and rice were warm but not hot. We didn't say anything because is wasn't that big of a deal to us. The chimichanga was hot and the steak inside was tasty. The cheese inside was similar to Velveeta cheese or canned nacho cheese. Not terrible, but not what I expected. I tried the gravy as I am new to the term gravy at Mexican restaurants. It was not very good to me. It tasted like chili with mushy chunks of lard. I tried it by itself, with chips, and with my chimi. It was not good in every attempt. This is my taste only and it may be a favorite to many others.
The best part of the meal were the kind and attentive employees, the atmosphere, and the beans and rice, There may be other dishes that are amazing, but ours were not today. I saw another person eating a salad and it looked great. I saw another person that ordered taco and they looked amazing. Still on the fence if we go back for another try since I see so many...
Read moreUPDATE — May 15, 2021 Changed from 3 stars to 1 star. My apologies if anyone went here based on my review. Today’s salsa was just runny. Horrible. It was just as watery as the “frozen” strawberry margarita. Awful. Spinach quesadillas were inedible. Beef fajitas were hot, not sizzling and tasted funky. Overhead a couple ask the waitress to reheat her dish. On the way home and for the next three hours—nauseas.
ORIGINAL POST - April 18, 2021 Amazing frozen strawberry margarita!!!! Don’t let me have more than one! The salsa was one of the best—I’d not best I’ve had in the area. The verde salsa was awesome, as well. We had a VERY LARGE group (30-40). Some didn’t get their meal anytime close to others of our four tables (even when sitting at the same table). My spinach and chicken enchiladas were disappointing. The chicken was cubed. The spinach didn’t have the seasoning flavor really integrated into the enchilada—until the next day as leftovers. The rice and beans did not stand out. My pal had the red snapper on a skillet, which also had steak, chicken, shrimp and veggies. His chicken was bland and over cooked. Steak was good. Fish was over cooked—possibly on the flattop. Shrimp was average. Charro beans were better the next day. I heard someone say they didn’t like the chicken/tortilla soup—it tasted fishy to her. Wonderfully kind staff. I think there were just too many of us for them. I’d like to give them a second chance, for sure. Worth going back for the...
