In the drive thru today, I was ordering some beans, food, and I always get my dog a "pup cup" at coffee places too, but hadn't had the chance to request one yet. She didn't know the difference between bean varieties. At a coffee roasting specialty shop. That alone was just weird. I'd never gone there before, wanted to support a local mom and pop type place, so I was relying on them knowing their products. Then things went very wrong.
She suggested the most popular selling beans, so I went with that. They weren't selling bagels either mid afternoon was where we had just covered. I looked away to get my money out of my purse pocket and when I looked up the employee was leaning out the window, arm fully extended, feeding my dog a milkbone looking biscuit in the window behind my seat, literally putting it into his mouth. Back windows can only go down halfway in my van, she really made an effort to reach him to get it. I was shocked, panicked, told her he was severely allergic, scolded her for giving that to him, told her I had to get him to the vets and I drove off.
After calling the vets just down the road and seeing what prophylactic help could be done to lower his risk of anaphylaxis (there aren't epi pens for pets sadly), and being told when his festering skin sores emerge from this ahead to bring him in to treat those too, I gave him Benadryl the vets decided on and returned the coffee shop. I asked for contact info of a manager or owner for payment of the vet bills he would be having because of her feeding him an allergen. She said no, because she didn't do anything wrong. He was at my cars window she said, so it was his fault. He was at the window because I get him pup cups of whipped cream at coffee places, he knows coffee smells = puppacinos, he's not allergic to whipped cream. I told her, because of her actions of putting a dangerous to him allergen right into his mouth, without asking permission or even warning, while I was distracted, SHE put him in direct danger of health and safety, there are going to be vet bills ahead because of her actions, he is going to suffer for weeks. She said simply 'ok', got the info, and gave it to me, and gave me her name too, all while she was having a hostile attitude, she acted mad at me for her mistake. I was speaking softly and formally, using my manners, and she had an attitude. I am in awe of how badly she was handling it. I get people make mistakes, we all do, but what they do beyond that defines character. She didn't apologize, didn't take responsibility, showed no concern for the dogs impact, and blamed the dog like she HAD to give him the biscuit, like he was holding her at gunpoint or jumped into her building and stole it from her or something. Such audacity. I can imagine her sneaking a toddler a candy, the child choking, and she'd blame the kid.
Terrible, terrible customer service, when they make mistakes there they behave even worse after.
My dog is going to suffer for weeks, will need vet visits, prescription skin sprays and ointments, be shaved, medicated baths, wear a cone, it takes about a month to clear up. He will need expensive immune suppressing medications that put him at risk of other health issues for at least a week. He will feel stressed, fiercely itchy 24/7 in a lot of places he can't even scratch, grumpy as heck and feel awful. She didn't even say sorry.
It's only been a couple of hours, his lips are itching him and he whines and groans when he rubs the sides of his mouth with his paws or against the carpet. The good news is, the highest risk time has passed, anaphylaxis would've hit by now. She didn't kill him. Yet she's mad at him and me for all of this.
Terrible customer service.
Edit a month later: This business never returned my email, never apologized. The dog...
Read moreReally right around 4.5/5 stars. I wanted a coffee before hitting the road back home and saw they're a roaster. So I figured, hey, let's see how well they know the craft. Turns out they know it well.
Just speaking for black coffee, that's some good stuff! They had two options for drip and I went with the single origin, which was from Oaxaca, Mexico. The card (on the roasted beans) said a strong note of lime and a black tea finish, which is pretty close to what I got. The lime was definitely there with a kind of limeade-like quality to it. I thought the finish was more like almond/grain (so granola?) than black tea, but I see why they list it as a note. I also noticed this great honey-floral note at the end of the lime as it cooled. Besides that, the body was heavier than you might think for a light roast on drip, which balanced both the acidity and moderate sweetness well. Overall, their roastmaster did a great job on that and showcased that northern central America vibe well.
All of that is to say, if you enjoy coffee for the seed of a fruit that it is, drop by and you might be pleasantly surprised.
The only negative part of the experience was the location and parking. Parking was tight but we managed. And the location... oof... right across from the cheese center (or whatever it's called) so it's basically a zoo over there, at least on the weekends. That's the only thing that'd give me second thoughts about another visit (like if I was staying in town). But, ya know, only briefly. I'd definitely go back for...
Read moremy partner and i had recently concluded our stay in the woods of the tillamook state forest and were in need of our usual java jolt. i had forgotten to pack the propane for our camping stove, leaving us weary-eyed on our drive westward towards the coast. as luck would have it, there is a town named after the forest nearby and is filled with humans who operate businesses that specialize in helping people like us. we both ordered americano coffees, i requested room in mine. they were generous to give me so much coffee, because there was only a small room in mine left for the cream to move in. i explained this to the container of half & half while i added it to the hot cup of americano. as luck would have it, you do not need to add a large room of cream into your coffee in order to lighten it up to the shade i like. most of that color comes from the sugar i add, so i might skip the whole room thing next time. sugar can move into...
