Golden City Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Tinton Falls

If you were to ask residents in the Tinton Falls area which is the best place to go for Chinese food, I would bet most would say KWONG FA which is located across from Applebees. For years, that restaurant has been serving the best Chinese take-out I have had the pleasure of eating.

However, KWONG FA was sold about 1-2 years ago. Since that sale, their food has taken a slight hit. I mean, it's not bad, but the quality has noticeably dropped. Up until this week, it still remained my go-to stop for take-out. I mean, I have been going to KWONG FA for decades.

On my way home from work every day, I pass the new shopping plaza where GOLDEN CITY resides. Never really gave a thought about trying it until I happened to read some very positive reviews about its food.

I called the restaurant several times around 11am when it was due to open. No answer on the phone. Called as late as 11:05 and there was still no answer. That's okay -- the crew was probably just getting in for the morning. So, I decided to order online. I signed up on their website and placed my order. 10 minutes later I was at their restaurant. They knew who I was when I walked in the door which gave me a nice assurance their online ordering was working. My food was ready in another 5 minutes.

What I found interesting is that they don't have separate lunch or dinner sizes of their combination platter. That's fine. I enjoy the larger dinner size anyway, and that is what I got. The price was around $19 for lunch, which is comparable with KWONG FA if you go with their dinner size meal.

I ordered the boneless ribs combo with eggroll. The eggroll was fantastic. You could immediately tell the oil they used was fresh. It certainly tasted better than KWONG FA's eggroll. The meal itself? Pretty damn good. The portion was HUGE. Got lots of boneless rib chunks. The meat was very lean and not fatty. It also wasn't overcooked and dry. The ribs from KWONG FA sometimes are overcooked. As I stated earlier, since the new ownership, the quality of food has somewhat taken a hit over at KWONG FA.

If there is any complaint it would be that the rice was really tiny. You don't get that nice long grain rice that you yearn for. However, the fact that they didn't use a larger rice option did not ruin the meal for me.

The lady at the counter was very, very nice. She smiled, said thank you and offered condiments. Very nice.

I would definitely return here. They have met a high bar that could make them the choice for Chinese Food in...

We have ordered from here 3 or 4 times before over the last several months. Food was good, delivery was fast and price was fair. I called tonight to place an order for myself. Which I have ordered before with no problems without a minimum. Tonight I called for the same order General tso chicken combination and a pint of white rice. They have delivered just that before no issue. Tonight there was a minimum to deliver. So I added one shrimp egg roll. Still was not enough. So I had to add beef sticks. Finally was enough. Then they asked would I like to tip on the card so I said yes add 5 dollars for the driver. It’s only a few minutes away. I got a weird text like like from a door dash delivery service saying your order has been confirmed then another text saying your delivery has been picked up and then another text after it was dropped off with photo verification. It’s like they’re using a third party delivery service now. Very weird never before has this happened when ordering from them. Then I look at the receipt and they added a 5 dollar delivery charge. Plus the 5 dollar tip I gave them. If I wanted to pay door dash price I would have used door dash. Me and my girlfriend usually spend less than the 36.47 dollar bill I received tonight for just me to eat, plus the 5 dollar tip I gave them which brings it to 41.47 for one person to eat Chinese take out. Beware ordering from here if you don’t want to be charged a delivery fee without your knowledge and then adding additional tip....

This is our go-to chinese food. Everything is fresh and cooked to order. The delivery service is fast and convenient. If anything is not correct, they immediately return with the right item. Their portions are very generous. They also customize if you ask for special ingredients. Their broccoli sides served with main dishes are triple the amount of other places . So you could eat leftovers 2 more times and still have enough veggies for each portion. Not like the 2 pieces cut in half from our old eatontown go -to. If you ever get an off meal speak up. They will happily fix it and be friendly about it. I like to change it up and add other veggies and sometimes fruit or nuts. It is always accomodated with a smile and not upcharged for every little thing. We will be ordering again soon. Thank you...
