Regrettably, I must share my experience at this coffee shop. As a Providence resident and a new Tiverton School District employee, I was initially excited about visiting this spot during my breaks. However, after ordering the "Ms. Claus Latte" and discovering it contained whole milk, I politely asked if it could be remade or if I could purchase a new one with my preferred milk due to lactose intolerance. The counter woman said I must pay & I was okay with that.
While I was paying & my phone call was on the counter my friend on the call remarked that in New York, they would have likely remade it for free & the woman behind the counter heard it. I looked at the woman in embarrassment hoping she didn’t hear him but acknowledged the difference in policies to my phone call and, in response, the woman declared aloud that they would make it free for most customers who aren't "rude" or on the phone. Feeling shocked and offended, I questioned how I was being rude, and she refused to provide an example, asserting she didn't have to.
Despite my attempts to understand, she insisted on her right to say and do as she pleased. Upset, I expressed my disappointment, mentioned my excitement about the coffee shop, but vowed never to return. Sadly, when I tasted the new coffee, it was noticeably different and even had coffee grounds in it. I paid for two drinks I couldn't enjoy. I also share that I felt discriminated against, being the only person of color present. I believe the woman was making it seem like my experience was tainted solely because I chose to talk on the phone during my break, a liberty others seemed to enjoy without repercussions but I think it’s because I might look different than customers she usually deals with.
I rarely give negative reviews or involve race, but this encounter left me with no choice. I hope the business owner addresses employee training in customer service and perhaps ensures clarity on milk preferences. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to this establishment, as I believe everyone should feel welcome in a coffee shop, regardless of their appearance or...
Read moreThe Black Goose was always my stop for a good sandwich. Sad to say that has changed. The sandwich remains the same 👍🏻, but the service has gone downhill to the point I won’t return. I ordered a sandwich to go, and waited patiently. I heard one of the staff members say something in a soft voice that could have sounded like “Gobbler to go”, so I glanced in that direction just in time to see the staff throw the bag containing my sandwich towards the side counter, completely overshooting the counter, and landing on the floor in the dining area! She didn’t even walk around to pick it up! She stood there, with zero cares to give! The cashier saw it and walked over to pick it up, unrolled the bag and looked inside, then handed it to me! No offer to make me a new sandwich, no apologies from anyone. Just the attitude of “here’s your sandwich I just picked up off the floor ….its good enough to eat so we aren’t remaking it, see ya next time”. The issues with the staff not caring goes beyond this one visit (I have waited inside for a lengthy time, waiting for a sandwich that they “forgot “ to make, again with no apologies, while 3 people are in the kitchen laughing at something being shared on one girls phone). Sadly, this was my last visit here. It’s a shame. The sandwiches are good, but I’m not eating mine...
Read moreThis is a great spot for a sandwich when you're in Tiverton (or on your way to the beach). They have changing sandwiches every month and season and some classics. I've never been disappointed with any of the sandwiches (most run $8-10 each).
Each sandwich usually comes with their house made Buffalo pasta salad. It is so amazing and such a classic. Sometimes we pick up a container to take home and indulge on. (depending on size runs $6-10).
They have delicious desserts. I've tried the blueberry pie which almost has a cookie like top cost, truly delicious! Rice crispy treat and s'mores bars are yummy also!
Coffee drinks run a little high for the quality, but are decent. My favorite is the peanut butter cup latte made with real peanut butter!
I haven't tried brunch yet, but that looks great as well, along with breakfast cocktails! They also have a few bottled beers to enjoy with your dinner.
Excellent views of outside. Seating available outside. Clean bathrooms!
Only 4 stars because they're not always friendly here. Sometimes I've been ignored. And also for the prices, some things aren't worth what they charge. But the food and views are great so I recommend stopping by next time you're...
