I grew up eating at El Tipico since I was a child, unfortunately, this is not the same El Tipico. My first complaint, as far as service to customers, is their strict requirement of having to make a reservation. I think itās unbelievable that every patron is REQUIRED to make a reservation. I had to change my reservation three times because Iām from out of town, and I was not able to accurately figure a timeline from picking up family members to go to the restaurant and had to keep changing my reservation to assure we had a table. That was not enjoyable or did it provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. I was asked if I wanted the ātraditional sauceā and I agreed yes traditional, but when I received my enchiladas it was more of a Mole sauce on my enchiladas (Very different than the more red chili based sauce). Not enjoyable and not tasty. Also for the price point of the plate these enchiladas were flat there was no cheese filling in the tortilla enchilada and very little cheese on the top of the enchiladas (enchiladas are supposed to be cheesy, You are supposed to get that cheese pull when you cut into that enchilada) the portion of rice was probably a tablespoon (small) and Most of the plate was covered with refried beans (of course the cheapest item to provide ) I understand restaurants are getting hit with higher prices, but donāt jeopardize your patrons satisfaction by cutting back on essential ingredients that make a meal authentic and enjoyable. The restaurant is very nicely decorated , there has been a lot of upgrades since the last time I ate it at El Tipico, which has probably been about 20+ years⦠but I would rather have the less lackluster atmosphere in exchange for the authentic Mexican food that was offered years ago when Pancho was in charge of the restaurant. Sad when change is not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst time visiting will also be our last. Saw pretty good reviews and thought it would be convenient after visiting the zoo. Wasn't excessively busy around 2pm on a Saturday but it took at least ten minutes before my wife and two children were seated. That would seem like no wait at all at other times and establishments but there was no one else waiting in front of us and there were plenty of open tables. Maybe we caught them between shifts or short staffed. Either way the service wasn't bad once we got seated but the food was disappointing from the chips and salsa onward. Chips were cold and didn't appear to be home made. Salsa was bland. We were going to try their puffy San Antonio style tacos but they said they were out so we split steak and chicken fajitas and tried one hard shell taco. Flavor wise it wasn't bad but nothing special either. The $18 fajitas had only three small strips of chicken and steak which was underwhelming to say the least. The most disturbing thing however was when we asked for more napkins and went to use one we noticed it had blood on it. No one at our table was bleeding anywhere and we noticed it as soon as we picked up the first napkin after the waitress left. I didn't ask for an explanation as I don't need one since even before that point we already decided we...
