1866 Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Tonganoxie

Welp, I am all for supporting local small businesses. However, I walked in today to place a to go order (because don’t try ordering over the phone) and asked about the specials and what other menu items the hostess would recommend and instead of telling me what was popular or most ordered by patrons, the hostess proceeds to tell me she doesn’t eat there and that she is really picky and only eats the French fries. A previous time, I placed a to go order via phone for a salad with no red onions and a side of ranch and only to find out when I get all the way back to my office that there was no salad dressing and my salad tasted of onions (so apparently they thought it was a good idea to pick the onions off a pre-made salad). The food is okay and the people seem okay. I have only ordered a handful of times. Realize if you get a to go order, you need to check your bag at the restaurant. They seem to always forget your salad dressing and plastic...

First time visit with family. I had the Spicy Diablo Burger; it was cooked perfectly and served hot. Packed with flavor and just the right amount of heat. Their beer selection was solid, too, with plenty of great options on tap.

Service was friendly and right on time. Never felt rushed, but we were never left waiting either.

The atmosphere really stood out as an authentic Kansas feel with character in every corner. The wide plank wood floors (we joked they were from 1866) added charm, and the soft lighting made it feel cozy and relaxed. There’s a big dining area and even a private room if you’re planning something special.

I noticed the disclaimer on the POS up front that stated ALL menu items are priced for cash sales only and that any other for if payment was subject to an additional fee that was NOT disclosed on the menu or the front door. Also does not state what the additional fee might be. Fortunately I was paying cash…once I payed cash n cash I wanted for my receipt but had to request one instead. I followed with “please don’t tell me I don’t get a receipt if I pay cash” in witch the second server replied with “ I will not have an answer you will like” the servers and staff were amazing unfortunately financially...
