I was working a job in the neighborhood of Wonder and was recommended it as a good lunch spot. When we looked up the "menu" on Google we were impressed at all of the variety and options and assumed that this would be something similar to a food hall with various different dining storefronts in a large facility. Boy were we wrong!
When we drove up to the location we were definitely looking for something along those lines. Something larger, with a substantial street presence. Instead we saw a large building that looked like it was only residential housing. We literally drove right past the main entrance twice, went around the back of the building and on the third pass we finally noticed it. Honestly, I don't know how we missed it the first two times because there is a "Wonder" sign directly above the entrance, but it's like a blip compared to the large building that it is in.
Then the question was where to park. It looks like one could park right on the street in front of the store, but there is no signage indicating if that's legal or not and when we were there, there was no one else parked on the street so we opted to not chance it. Not that this is on the store, but it would be great if there was something that indicated if that's a go or a no. So we pulled into the driveway just north of the store and noticed a small sign that said "parking garage for residents & guests". In the garage is a ramp that has spots that are reserved for guests of Wonder. Don't follow another car into the gated area though! It's for residents only!
We finally made it to Wonder! Upon entering, we realized this was not at all what we expected. No big dining hall. Not multiple counters for the different dining options! It's basically a ghost kitchen. All the restaurants that are offered on the online menu are prepared in one kitchen and served out of one window.
When you enter, there are a couple of tablets in front of you where you pick your cuisine and food items and pay via credit (only, as far as I could tell, no cash). There are no humans there to help you unless you call back into the kitchen through the service window.
As for the rest of the space, there's only seating for maybe 20 or so people in the store. No host station. Frankly, when we walked in, there was no one there. It seemed like the place was unoccupied. We did eventually see some staff in the kitchen.
As for the food, it was fantastic. Great quality. Cooked relatively quickly. It was really expensive, but it was delicious. My coworker ordered a sandwich, a small side and a can of soda and it was $22. I had a sandwich a medium sized side and it was $21 (no drink).
That's all I have for y'all. It's a good place but I definitely would not classify it as a "restaurant". Restaurants have hosts, servers, buss staff, ambiance. This place had none of that. Call it a kitchen or ghost kitchen or something else. Just not...
Read moreThis is a neat concept for a restaurant/take-out place! There are so many options to choose from, which can be a bit overwhelming if you're indecisive like me, but can be great if you're getting food with someone else and don't want to go back and forth over where to go or if you just want the ability to get fries even if you want to order a cuisine that doesn't normally come with fries like me. 🍟💕😁 The prices seem about average for restaurant/take-out in this area, and it is nice to be able to pick and choose different items you want. It was super easy to order everything online. Though they understandably encourage you to make an account and/or download their app, they don't force you to do so. It still sends you to a nice order progress page when you're done, and they send a text/email notification when your order is ready. My order was ready in the estimated time. I had a poké bowl from Hanu, garlic fries from Fred's, and pudding from Tejas. The Sriracha mayo on the poké was a bit heavy, it would have been nice to have an option to omit that or to have it on the side, but everything else in the bowl was fresh and delicious and went well together. The fries, though a bit cold by the time I picked up and got home and settled down to eat, were cooked well and had a generous amount of garlic which I really enjoyed. The pudding tasted like one of those popular little individually wrapped round chocolate truffles and the little wafer pearls provided a nice contrast. All of the portions were a good size. 😋 Parking was a bit confusing having not been there before - you have to follow the signs for the apartment complex residents and visitors to go into the garage just past the ev and handicapped spots to find the several spots with signs reserved for Wonder - but it is there and it is free and convenient. The place itself is very nice - the take out shelf is right there at the front, making it easy to grab and go, and there is also a small seating area if you want to stay and eat. Overall, I was happy with my experience with Wonder! I think this is a great place, I will keep it in mind for the future, and I would recommend anyone give...
