Four stars because they are nice, clearly try hard, and are just so close…but here’s why they are not “there”
Let me start by saying that this review is not about deterring people from going to this restaurant (or hotel) It is more than adequate for a decent meal. Great ambiance, wonderful people.
However, as an operations specialist, and culinary enthusiast, these things need to be said in hopes of a remedy for a more successful business.
One, it took almost 15 minutes for us to get a menu. That’s not “let me exaggerate for effect”, 15 minutes. I mean 15 minutes.
Two, waiters need to be dressed more appropriately than a backwards hat, a flannel shirt, and ripped jeans. This is food service, not the gap.
Three, after ordering our meal from a lovely menu selection, and drinking our very tasty coffee, we witnessed the people next to us get a breakfast that was no where on the menu we were handed, nor told to us as a special. As it happens, I would have ordered it had it been communicated.
Third. If you are going to serve eggs Benedict, you better know how to make a hollandaise sauce. They either don’t, or cooked the eggs on too high of a heat, and the eggs curdled. It was thick and grainy and not silky and smooth. In Cracker Barrel this is acceptable. Not at a restaurant you want to be proud of.
Four, the açaà bowl, while delicious, was littered with frozen chunks.
Lastly, and most unfortunately, an elderly gentleman who was having breakfast was noticeably getting impatient waiting for someone to check on him and his guest. He was apparently wanting more coffee and eventually decided to go get it himself. After watching him walk to the kitchen, past our friend in the flannel shirt and backwards hat, he was poured coffee into his cup standing at the kitchen door. He then (this man wasn’t a day under 85) walked across the restaurant, and back outside carrying his coffee.
It is my hope that this very nice establishment is able to remedy these unfortunate deficiencies, and bridge the gap from decent...

Heating system in rooms is out of date, no coffee in rooms nor in bar/restaurant. When you check in, you get to visit the hotel bar, which is THE BAR for the town. The staff are very nice and accommodating but are over-tasked and under resourced by the new owner, who is in way over his head. The staff also run the restaurant side. Food is very good, somewhat unique, and service is fairly good but not enough waiters/waitresses. However, the French doors to the bar are left open so you share your dinner with the locals playing pool and watching the Game...and 'relaxing' after a long work week. Outside the building is falling apart. No one cleans the mold, repairs/replaces the pieces falling off the structure, or finds a can of paint. No one shovels snow or salts the ice. While it is winter, this was the same before the cold came. |On one hand, this is a bizarre trainwreck, on the other, It's the only game for many miles. However, I don't believe it will last. Our family has traveled here for many years but...
Read moreI've been a part-time resident of Andes for over 35 years and am in the middle of doing some work on our second home outside of town. I decided to stay at the Andes Hotel as it is only a few miles trip to my property.||The room was spacious and comfortable, a bit pricey, but the equipment -- heat, mini-fridge, TV, shower and toilet -- were all well-maintained and in good working order. The hotel restaurant serves very good food and the staff is all very friendly.||There was one issue...||When reserving our room we were told there would be a Halloween party that night, but "It will end by 11PM". We were OK with that, but we also knew we'd have to be up and out the door early to head back to the city to return a truck I had rented.||It wrapped up at 12:30 -- the rave didn't even start until 11:30, altho there had been music since 7PM -- and the guests didn't settle in their rooms until 1PM, even later. I finally fell asleep at 2 and was up at 5. ||Other than that, it was a lovely hotel and I would recommend it with a very serious caveat to check for parties and events, especially if the weather is warm enough for the hotel to utilize the...
