Somewhere Else Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Town of Bass Lake

A few friends and I from out of town decided to stay in Hayward for the weekend, and we were looking for a bite to eat and a beer to drink. It was a little late and we knew it was a possibility the kitchen would be closed, but it was a neat looking place. When my friends and I walked in we were instantly greeted with a very rude, “the kitchen is closed kids,” from the bartender. We do look on the younger side, but we are all a few years past 21. This made us a little uncomfortable, so we sent one of us up to ask if there is a place with an open kitchen around us because we had traveled a while to get here. He decided to get a shot of tequila while asking, and after he was ID’d she threw his id back down hard on the bar instead of handing it to him. After he took the shot, she then asked him if his id was fake which obviously he was able to prove he wasn’t. Once we finally had a recommendation to go another bar, we decided to get out of there because evidently we were not welcome. On our way out though, the bartender made sure to follow it up with a rude, “Don’t forget your IDs and to wipe your milk mustaches off “ I used to work in a bar and grill, and I was appalled by how we were treated by the bartender on Friday night. I get we look on the younger side, but we were genuinely looking to enjoy the bar like everyone else. If you are not from Hayward or if you look younger than 30, I recommend just driving right past and finding...

The beef hamburger tasted strange, a bit spicy & just....not normal.... (I eat a lot of burgers & so does my family) I ate ALL of the black & blue burger, but my 10yr old didn't like the taste of his basic cheeseburger.. I sampled it & agree the meat tastes strange... HOWEVER.... the waitress/slash bartender, was AWESOME! They're open mic night was cancelled due to the weather, she was apologetic about it, even tho it wasn't her fault.... She was very efficient & super friendly... The absolutely ♥️BEST thing she did, was ask the parents if the 3kids needed refills & checked to make sure they were allowed the soda they ordered. 👍👍⭐⭐⭐⭐MORE waitresses should be this considerate! This place used to be called Moochers & back in the day it was pretty darn lively... I've only visited the "Somewhere Else Bar" once so far & it's winter time, but frm what the locals say, it's a great place..... I'll try open mic night next week again & I can't wait to hear the live music too. ♥️Super Great...

We were a bit surprised when we pulled up to the restaurant and it looked like a hole in the wall bar. That’s exactly what it is. The staff were great! It’s by no means anything fancy and there are no regular tables to sit at. I had the burger and fries. The burger had a secret sauce on it but it was good. The fries are hand cut and great! My husband had the chili baked potato. The potato was so big it filled the food basket it was served in.
