Benedetti's Supper Club — Restaurant in Town of Beloit

My supper club group decided to kick off our summer of 2021 at Benedetti's Supper Club in Beloit. Last summer, we began with Ishnala in the Dells and the Butterfly Club also in Beloit. Both Beloit establishments provided a meal far superior to Ishanla (highly overpriced and overrated). Sure the view is a million dollar view. Have an old fashioned in the bar and call it a day. Our group arrived at Benedetti's at 5:20 for a Saturday 5:30 reservation. We were offered to be seated or sit in the bar and have a drink first. We sat at some table surrounding the bar, but with no attempted service after 5 minutes we decided we'd rather order from our dining table than walk up to the bar. We were promptly brought our water, but then waited for another 10 minutes before our very friendly and apologetic server came to take our drink orders. I was very unhappy and am sure the bus staff saw/heard my displeasure with seemingly being ignored. A short time later our server arrived and apologized that she was in the middle of serving a large party in a back room. A hostess should have recognized that we had not been greeted and explained the situation. We would have been more than understanding, instead between the bar service, or lack thereof, and the late greeting at our table to take a drink order, Benedetti's was behind the 8 ball, for sure. From here forward we had a very pleasant experience. Great old-fashioned, a yummy soup and salad bar (first since covid for me). Our meals were all flavorful. I had the usual, filet and fried shrimp. The shrimp were the largest I've had in years. Perfect breading and cocktail sauce. My medium filet was more rare/medium-rare. I did not send it back as I normally would because I was so damn hungry. Finally, we had to try what initially caught my eye about this place in the Wisconsin Super Club Book.....the incredibly and impossibly immense ice-cream drinks. Our table of 6 agreed upon the traditional grasshopper. We requested and were presented with 6 small dishes so we could share in the dessert. The grasshopper was incredible! If I could give this a half star, I would make this a 3.5. The atmosphere was mediocre at best and the lack of attention at the beginning of our meal was a huge drawback. If you are on a tour of Wisconsin Super Clubs, do not let my experience deter you....if for no other reason, you must get your photo op with the ice-cream drink. Jamie, our waitress was the best I've ever experienced at this establishment! She introduced herself which is common. What was uncommon was her impeccable timing.

We were seated by the hostess and given menus. Our waitress came to our table within a few minutes. She introduced herself and asked if we were ready to order. We were ready so she took our food and drink order then brought our drinks promptly. Then she brought coleslaw and hot bread shortly thereafter.

I ordered the baked cod with fries and asked for extra lemon. My dinner partner ordered the fried cod with half fries and half home fries.

When she brought the food to the table, I had plenty of lemons. I Usually get 2 little wedges so I was happy to have what I asked for.

She asked if we needed anything else, at which time my partner asked for a diet cola, no ice. She brought it promptly.

My ideal waitress gets you what you ask for, pays attention and doesn't come by every 5 minutes to ask you questions when your mouth is full of food. Jamie was my ideal waitress and gave us excellent service!

When we were almost done, she came by and asked if we'd like dessert. Of course we had dessert!

If you've never been to Benedetti's, you should. And after dinner enjoy the Grasshopper. A mountain of vanilla ice cream blended with Creme de Menthe and Cream de Cocao, swirled and piled high in a stemmed glass dish. Wish I would have taken a photo but we grabbed our spoons and starting eating it up. It was yummy!

Terribly bland food. When you see that in other reviews, do not ignore it. We nicely said something to the waitress bc everything, ESPECIALLY the steaks, were so flavorless and each one (prime rib and filet mignon) were $40. She said it is it purposeful bc the general population they serve prefer blander tasting foods. The salad bar was ok but the au gratin potatoes were crunchy and very undercooked and had no flavor. The au jus was just brown water. Also I ordered initially prime rib (medium) and it came out grey/brown with absolutely no pink in sight. So they did let me substitute for a filet mignon since it was cooked so poorly which was nice but that was flavorless as well. Waitress was nice about all that but extremely slow. We had to wait 20 mins for refills, 10 mins for our check, another 10 mins for a box and she completely forgot bread until I said something. Sad part is we even serve ourselves the salad bar. And the bread btw? Meant to be like crispy Italian rolls. Two were good. The other 2 were hockey pucks that could've probably given someone a concussion had they been thrown at someone's head. Best thing I can say is the feel of the restaurant was nice and the iceberg lettuce was fresh. We eat at many different places. We are not picky, trust me. But this was the worst food we've gotten and the worst $100 we spent in several years. We will never ever be back, nor recommend this place.
