The Gonq is THE place to be in the Summer - the most beautiful views of the lake, whether you're inside or out, great service, especially since it was packed on a Friday night, and quite decent food and beverages. We had a large party of 16, and they were able to give us a reservation inside without a deposit or anything - quite nice. No reservations to sit outside, and when we left around 8, people were still lined up. This place is great for a family - there are lots of menu items to choose, from burgers to seafood pasta to a fancier surf and turf special. Fresh bread is served with the meal.
I started with their smoky spicy margarita, and it was alright - seemed a little heavy on the mixer and light on the tequila if I'm honest. My next drink was a dirty martini, which I recommend. It was just right. For food, we ordered the chef's wings, which have a spicy and hot sauce - they were decent, but not the best in the area. I also had the New England clam chowder, which was honestly kind of disappointing, as I got a lump of flour roux in my bowl, and not as many clams as I'd like. Still, pretty tasty, and came out hot. Hubby had the surf and turf special - NY strip and a lobster tail with a baked potato and veggies - very good. Even reheated, the steak was cooked nicely and tender. Veggies were cooked and flavored nicely. Sweet, tender lobster tail and butter. I had the short rib Marsala, and I highly recommend that. It's slow cooked and tender, served with their fried gnocchi (which I've never seen anywhere else) and savory Marsala sauce and mushrooms. Delicious and a large portion. I will say, everything at the table was a bit under-seasoned, but some salt seemed to do the trick. The fish and chips portion is quite large.
Overall, a very nice meal with the family on vacation - it's...
Read moreWe've been to Algonquin Restaurant many times before and have usually had great experiences, but our most recent visit left us disappointed.
There was a short wait before we were seated, which was fine. However, the issues started right away when we asked for a high chair for our daughter. The staff initially brought a booster seat instead, telling us they had no high chairs. Eventually, one was brought over later, but it was a frustrating start.
Our waitress greeted us with a noticeably unfriendly attitude, bringing waters for the table without asking if we wanted one for our daughter. We ordered drinks and appetizers, which arrived relatively quickly, but our dinners took quite some time to come out. While waiting, multiple staff members came by trying to clear our drink glasses, as if we had already finished our meal, making us feel rushed before we had even received our food.
When the meals did arrive, most of our group enjoyed their dishes, though my father-in-law was not happy with his. During the meal, the manager displayed an unnecessarily abrasive demeanor, at one point picking up a toy that had fallen from a nearby table, assuming it was ours, and dropping it on our table without asking. I then had to track down the rightful owner at another table.
As we were finishing, we asked for boxes, but before we could pack up, a staff member removed my daughter's plate, still full of food, and threw it away. This was extremely frustrating as we had intended to take it with us.
Overall, the service felt rushed and dismissive, with both the waitstaff and manager contributing to an unwelcoming atmosphere. This is far from the attentive and pleasant service we've experienced in the past, and unfortunately, it left us feeling disrespected and...
Read moreWe went to The Algonquin for dinner Wed 6/02/21. My bride fondly remembers coming here with her family from their summer rental in Cleverdale, NY.(1967-71) The eight of them always came on her Dad's wooden Chris Craft boat. This was her first time back by car. We sat at the bar looking out over the bay. As this was a Wednesday, they other bar patrons were members of the local restaurant/bar community. We ordered drinks and leisurely looked over the menu. The bartender was very friendly & vaguely familiar. When I heard someone call him by name, I knew my hunch was right. I probably hadn't seen him in 15 years. Joe C. & his brother Andres C. were in my son's wedding. Confirmed this via txt msg w/ my son. It was fun to catch up w/ Joe. I had the Ahi tuna skiffs appetizer-Ahi tuna on a fried won ton topped with a ginger soy glaze ($14). Perfectly cooked rare tuna. Went very nicely w/ my tequila & club. Followed that up w/ a great seafood scampi ($32). My bride had the club steak-med rare w/ vegt. ($22). And her go-to pinot grigio. It was a fun, relaxed, casual time filled w/ lots of memories. The Algonquin has indoor & outdoor dining, also an upstairs room that can reserved for big parties or events. And the upper Hacker-Craft bar. You can travel here by boat & tie up at their docks. NOTE: Reservations are recommended as they are full capacity from Memorial Day through mid-October. Hours are 7 days/wk 11:30am-9:30pm. The Algonquin is a place you return to time and again because of their service & cuisine. They have stood the test of time in resort area w/ many dining options. Thank you Joe C. and the staff at The Algonquin. We had a great time and will return soon. Nick & Liz, Albany, NY p.s. Joe C next time we'll bring...
