Update: frankly, I’m happy to see them closed for the time being and hope it makes way for a business who can take full advantage of that gorgeous building, and not of their hungry customers.
It's a shame this place is so expensive for such mediocre food. It's a very charming location and the building itself has a lot of character.
But I paid $100 for two people to eat dinner and have a couple beers each, only to receive dry, flavorless, grey meat on my sandwich. The Au Jus sauce was good, but good impressions of the food ended there. The onion rings tasted of dirty fryer oil. If the bread was baked in house, they need a new baker because it, also, was dry and flavorless. If it's not baked in house, why are they charging $30 for a fricking chicken sandwich? I always clear my plate and am NOT a picky eater. I will eat anything. I couldn't finish my meal because the meat was so dry, grey, and off putting. Everyone at my table agreed: its messed up to charge these prices for such low quality food.
Furthermore, we paid to reserve one of the igloos for a certain time period, and at least fifteen minutes before our time was up, a staff member we hadn't spoken to before came into the igloo and asked us to leave because their next reservation was coming. I get that the table needed to be picked up... so why sell us a certain amount of time and give us fifteen minutes less than we paid for?
When it came time to pay the bill, I mentioned that we would like it split between two parties. The waitress rudely informed us that if I wanted that done, I "should have told [her] sooner, it's too late now." That's bullcrap. She was being lazy, obviously it can be done, she just didnt want to put in the effort.
If you are from Florida or Texas or something and are visiting Lake George, please avoid eating here on a nice night out. The Barrel is a very poor representation of what this region has to offer. I can think of more than two handfuls of restaurants within thirty miles off the top of my head that have far superior food for lower prices. For this style of food, go to Downtown City Tavern in Glens Falls, or Druthers in Saratoga Springs. The food will be better, the beer selection will be larger, the wait staff will be kinder, and you...
Read moreThe place is definitely a good spot in the area. We used to go quite a bit, the most recent experience was very good. There have been some experiences that were not always the best. The food is good. Some dishes are great and some could use a little work. Wings, pretzels, salads, corned beef sandwich are all great. My only complaint would probably be the burger. When I first started going there they had a great hamburger then during covid they went to a thin Patty. Now for a thick Burger you get doubled up patties which is not my favorite. It's Smashburger style so you can't ask for it to be cooked a certain temperature. Overall it's a great place with great atmosphere especially in the winter when many other things...

This was my first time ever being here and it was definitely a nice experience!
My waiter was very friendly and constantly checked up on my family to make sure our food was great, and refilled our drinks a lot
(I’m really happy that he did, because it’s never fun sitting at a restaurant and having your waiter be no where to be found and to be thirsty.. really can ruin a nice night out.)
Overall it was a great experience!
I had the S’MORE Martini and the blue water lemonade.
I really enjoyed the blue water lemonade drink.
For food, my family and I had some buffalo wings, barrel poutine and ADK chicken. The food was...
