For 40 years my dad and I have come into Headwaters for lunch after a day of fishing. For 40 years my family has come in for fish fry. This past weekend I wanted to bring my kids into Headwaters for the first time to show them the amazing tradition that is Headwaters. Razz's on the River. Closed. Now, this is something I want to be very careful of, especially with the understanding that the owners are local. It's their venture, and to be so selfish as to think that the name of the place is something that I should have a say in when the place has nothing to do with me aside from being a lifelong customer is both ignorant and borderline ridiculous. But why? I don't want to hear anything about tradition and or history from anyone that owns or works there when you take a place that guide's and locals love and call home then rename it something else. The place was built in 1926 and called Mickey's Nightclub, later the Hilltop and eventually for years it was Headwaters. Because it has not always been Headwaters I can understand where you would not be forced to keep the name due to longtime tradition - but it is insanely disappointing to drive by the place and see it named Razz's on the River and find out they are closed 3 days a week and not open for lunch. It has always been open for lunch so guide's could stop in after fishing, but to see that chance is really disappointing. Times change, places change and Boulder is changing rapidly - mostly for the better. This review is not meant to negatively reflect an experience inside the restaurant but to try to better understand 2 things. Why is it Razz's? Why isn't it open for lunch? I want nothing more than the place to do well and for people to be able to go in an enjoy themselves, but my dad now 96 was heartbroken to hear that we could not stop into Headwaters anymore for lunch. ...
Read moreA Fantastic New Addition to Boulder Junction! We visit Boulder Junction every summer and were sad to see Headwaters close… but we decided to give the new spot, Razz’s on the River, a try last week, and we are so glad we did! Our party of six enjoyed a truly delicious meal in a welcoming Northwoods setting. We started with the cheese curds, and wow!! These were some of the best we’ve ever had. Authentic Wisconsin cheese curds, perfectly fried with just the right crunch on the outside and warm, melty goodness inside. A must-order! The Brandy Old Fashioned Sweets were also top-notch! As for our entrees, our group ordered a variety: 3-Grilled Pesto Chicken Sandwiches, Walleye Dinner, Brisket Sandwich and Steak Burger. Every single plate was a hit! The pesto chicken was juicy and flavorful, the brisket tender and smoky, the burger perfectly cooked, and the walleye fresh and flaky. Delicious! Razz’s on the River is a welcome and worthy addition to the Boulder Junction dining scene. We’ll definitely be...
Read moreMy family and I ate there the other night and had a great experience. We got the tenderloin tip app that also came with garlic bread that was really good. All of the food portions were huge, and they had a nice little salad bar. All of the tables were not your simple ikea furniture, they were comfortable nice chairs. I grew up with the family that owns it, they are local and just trying to do their own take and have a special restaurant in the northwoods. We...
