The Portage — Restaurant in Town of Cable

The layout is a fantastic design, makes one feel they are outside -even if they’re not. Sports? …has two big screens playing games inside, if that’s what you’re about.

The outdoor seating area is extensive & well thought out. There are plenty of communal areas, but also clusters (gazebos) where a big family might have a spot that they can just be together & chill.

The menu is solid, but somewhat basic. 5 main meals with 2 chip/dip options. After 8pm they offer “Lou Malnati's® Chicago Deep-dish Pizza” & also have 3 brunch items for Saturday’s 9-2pm.

We had a district meeting in town and arrived 90 minutes early, so we went looking for a place to eat. Saw a bunch of cars in the parking lot of a little place. Decided to pull in and a little bit reluctant with it being saint Patrick's day, perhaps reservations were needed. Walked in, there were 2 empty seats, talked to the lady behind the bar, and ordered double hamburgers with kettle chips. Along with this fantastic root beer, there was an Irish band threesome there, singing and playing away. Burger was done perfectly. The lady behind the bar was exceptional. Price was relatively decent, and I will be back...

Portage has really added a lot to Cable since it opened. Having this, the pizza spot and pie shop all close together makes for a really inviting area for the town with an open, connected yard space.

The indoor/outdoor setup is ideal with the fire pits, games, and music/events.

Food & Beverage wise--Great beer selection. The food as others mention is limited but it's good nonetheless. They've done chips and taco days/nights and typically hit it out of the park. Tuna Melt and Green Goddess salad are also 2 solid options.
