beautiful building - way overrated food and too pricey for blue collar area. I've been a baker for 30 years. when asked was told they do not take custom orders for breads pies pastry; daily offerings are very limited. I've eaten there five times and I pass by daily. my impression is that most pastry and muffins etc tends to be on the dry side (does your baker use REAL BUTTER? I think not). the huge windows in front allow you to see the fluctuating business inside at different times of the day - there's NO WAY jeff bake shop makes a profit to sustain itself. I feel certain it's a write off and has been, since inception. on a higher note, the owners have done nice things for the jeff community such as create an outdoor garden plot with path, cute photo opp chair outside, occasional special events upstairs in their event room (not marketed and thus not maximized by any stretch of imagination), and of course, completely rehabbed entire bldg, painting it light pink - NONE OF THIS has anything to do with the definition and purpose of a true bakery. a true bakery meets and sustains the needs and demands of its community residents on a daily basis, offering a wide variety of handmade, fresh, baked goods you'd prefer to make and eat in your own kitchen IF you had the time - because EVERYONE can taste the difference between homemade handmade, and processed, out of the box/can made; we're American. a true bakery takes custom orders. a true bakery supercedes 80% over supermarket sales of processed, boxed, and/or frozen baked goods (typically made in mass quantities by machines, with a lot of bad stuff in them and always available; you might read about the garbage in supermarket "cakes" online) - EVEN WHILE the bakery is in the same town or even same neighborhood as the supermarket. a true bakery always has a selection of products that are in keeping with the current monthly holiday and/or cultural traditions taking place, all year round. when produce is in season, specific baked goods containing this produce is also in season. there is no themes or traditions here. there isn't one item on the menu that they're universally known and loved for. that one thing that goes viral because it's indisputably the BEST. jeff bake shop environ is a comfy space to meet n chat with friends, and I am glad it's here in jeff, but the core - the bakery itself - is meh, nothing special, even boring. jeff bake shop is a coffee shop, NOT a...
Read moreAre you kidding me with how great this place is?!! I've been going to the garbage resort up the road, Villa Roma, for 27 years. I never looked forward to going until this place opened. Since they opened their doors, I've been every year. I spend more money here that at the resort for the week I'm up there.
The breads are amazing. The coffee, I can't even describe how perfect it is. The sandwiches are so fresh, I think the bacon and eggs are less than a day old when you get it. Desserts, there aren't enough hours in the day to try them all, sooo good.
Today, I had a blueberry coffee, best coffee I've ever had!
I've already been there three days this week. I'm going to try and go tomorrow before I leave again for the year.
Lastly, the service is exceptional. The lady making my blueberry coffee was such a professional. She had the desire and passion to make every detail and ingredient pop. You can tell she really cares about the product she put out. Not just my order, but every order o watched her make. She didn't just throw the cold foam on top, she made sure it was layered and perfect. Truly appreciated!
The counter girl who answered the phone was sweet and patient. I've been in hospitality for 35 years, I've seen shitty customers and crazy busy times make the best people crumble. Not this girl. She kept her smile and gave everyone the attention they deserved every time. She was even tasked with answering the phone repeatedly to tell people, "yes we are open today" (today being the 4th of July). I'm guilty of making the call before I arrived. (Goes to show how little we trust Google). She laughed at me when I called, probably thinking, just look it up on Google. She was awesome on the phone and in person.
Thank you again for another great experience...
Read moreStopped by to order varieties of pastries. Didn't see Cinnamon buns so ordered other items. I would've ask to see if they had some more in the making if I wasn't turned off by lack of interaction. Two staffs working at the register were simply overwhelmed (or underprepared) and combined with lack of greeting/acknowledgement made me felt rather uncomfortable. I stuck around long enough to place order since most items are to be shared with others at home. Issues: Lack of experience/awareness. Staff was making conversation with a person in front of me (good), but didn't greet anyone else. Nor did the staff realize that line is building up and the other staff making drinks is in no shape to help out with the line. Lack of preparedness. My order wasn't going to fit in a paperbag, so box was needed. Except boxes were nowhere to be found, or made to go. Paper napkin. It's pink because of Breast Cancer awareness which is feel good. Except it's too small to be useful on handling any pastries. Saw the staff handling a tart (two got stuck) with bare hand because napkin was useless. Shouldn't the staff wear a disposable glove instead? Or food tongue? Smile! It's a service industry. If I don't see anyone greeting or smiling, my instinct is to turn around and leave. I didn't particularly feel welcome or wanted. I understand that it's new establishment and buzz factor is high to bring in foot traffic now, but how many will stick around to be regulars?
As for the pastries, scones and turnovers are ok, chocolate croissant is fine. Haven't tried tarts yet.
Will I making a return trip? Better hope tarts are out of...
