Have eaten here many times before, but usually takeout. The food is generally good and the roadhouse wings are extremely tender and quite literally fall off the bone. They have by far the best wings in the area.
The restaurant does a heck of a business on any given day and since we don't dine in very often, didn't realize they require reservations on the weekends. In any case, the hostess allowed us to wait even though we didn't have a reservation. We were finally seated after about 15 minutes which was not unreasonable.
Ordered the chicken parmesan with penne instead of linguine. What I don't quite understand is why restaurants in general only give a small serving of pasta, when pasta is very inexpensive. Would like to understand why that is. I would rather pay a little extra for an entree that had healthy portions. Came with a single chicken breast. The entree was still good. Many times have gotten overcooked pasta here, but last night was not one of those times thankfully.
My daughter got the cheeseburger children's meal, which came with tasty thick cut seasoned french fries. For appetizers we got the mozzarella wedges and the roadhouse wings. Both were outstanding.
The interior is alot of hard materials, metal panels on the wall, concrete floors, drywall ceiling and lots of wood. Typical materials found in a barn. Unfortunately it makes for a very loud atmosphere especially when the place is packed.
They always seem short staffed as our waitress seemed very overwhelmed but still kept trying. Had something of a challenge to keep our drinks refilled. Serving staff certainly seem to earn their pay.
As usual, will be back, but...

My only advice and feedback is that they need to improve the atmosphere— especially the lighting. Its way too harsh and bright for the eyes in there.
They should prioritize warm-toned LEDs over cool ones to maintain a relaxed atmosphere, and go with Warm White LED Bulbs: • Color Temperature: 2700K-3000K (soft/warm white) to create cozy, inviting tones that enhance food presentation and comfort. • High CRI (Color Rendering Index): Bulbs with CRI ≥ 90 to ensure food colors appear vibrant and appetizing • Replace cool white LEDs (3500K+) or fluorescent bulbs with warmer alternatives to eliminate clinical or harsh vibes.
Would be also great if they threw up some acoustical paneling also to absorb the reflective sound... some advice i found online:
• Fabric-Wrapped Panels: Use bleachable, fire-retardant acoustic panels (e.g., SONEX or Primacoustic) wrapped in decorative fabrics to blend with the restaurant’s décor while maintaining cleanliness. • Eco-Friendly Options: Consider eco-C-tex® panels made from recycled materials (e.g., post-consumer newspaper) for sustainability. • High NRC Ratings: Opt for 2” rigid fiberglass panels (e.g., GIK Acoustics Spot Panels) with NRC ratings ≥1.05 for superior sound absorption. • Surface Coverage: Aim to cover 40% of exposed surfaces (walls, ceilings) with absorptive materials to reduce reverberation. • Carpet...
Read moreBarnwood is located about 10 mins from Exit 21 on the NYS Thruway. It's the perfect lunch/dinner (11am - 9pm) stop when traveling on the Thruway. I expected it to be your basic American diner but it is way beyond that! The dinner menu has most of the staples you'd expect but they are prepared so well and so tasty I was blown away. The pulled pork sandwich was roasted to perfection. Not slathered in sauce to hide the taste- rather bare, for you to add your own toppings preferences. The meat was amazing! The New England clam chowder was seriously one of the best I've ever had. Perfect blend of spices, a touch of heat and fresh clams to die for.
The best entree is the Amazing Calamari, crispy and served with a marinara, chopped cherry peppers and shredded parmesan topped with a balsamic sauce. IT IS FREAKIN FANTASTIC!
They have a bunch of beers on tap, an incredibly friendly, attentive staff, and literally everything on the menu esp the BBQ items are superb. I went in expecting a standard diner and came out stunned with how enjoyable my dinner was. Did I mention dessert? Try the Lava Chocolate Cake!
If you're ever in that area, it's a must visit spot! It's my new regular lunch and dinner place when traveling. Very affordable too. Highly highly...
