Milty Wilty Drive-In — Restaurant in Town of Dakota

Milty Wilty is probably one of my favourite melancholic restaurants I've ever been to. It's been around for at least forever, and the state of disrepair some of this place is in is an absolute pleasure. By no means is this a top of the line glossy brand new establishment, but is in fact a historic location you must visit if you come to this area yearly...just to see it again. For those of us who enjoy rustic and authentic places, this is why it deserves a 5 star, for those of us who this is a beacon of warmth and decay.

The ice creams and shakes and cones and fries and burgers are excellent. I cannot recommend one item, but in fact suggest every year coming and trying something new each time!

This is a seasonal location, so spring/summer/early fall: open, winter: closed.

I’ve been stopping in for dessert for more than 40 yrs and the quality of their unique custard hasn’t changed a bit! If it’s your first time, just get the frozen custard/ice cream. Don't get it mixed into a shake or with toppings. It’s heaven. The only downside is, that phenomenal taste doesn’t survive the freezer…not even a few hours! And it's not cheap; I think it was $8 for a pint. If you’re eating lunch or supper, try their fish and chips. The fish is excellent, although the fries are nothing to write home about. I haven't had it in years but everyone loves their pizza. Let's face it though, your meal is just something to get through when you're at the Milty Wilty! It's the dessert that brings us all there. The good: Our shakes were great. Prices and portion sizes are really good. The mediocre: I had the "cheesesteak" sandwich, and it just wasn't. It was pot roast. Little to no seasoning. My wife and daughter had burgers, and they were just ok. The curly fries, while greatbportion size, weren't terrible, but did taste like they'd sat a while, and were tossed back in the fryer. The bad: i wouldn't say anything was especially bad.

Final overview: would definitely stop for a shake or malt again, but that's about it. Stopped on the way through because we were hungry. We ate. We're no longer hungry, but wouldn't say the food was "satisfying". I hope we just stopped on an off day and this isn't the usual fare. When I do try again I will update...
