Chick-fil-A — Restaurant in Town of Danube

So being from Upstate NY we do not yet get many opportunities to try the “famous” Chick-fil-A except when traveling. When one opened on the NY Thruway, I90 West, I was pretty psyched as I travel that way regularly. This review is after 3 visits, and 2 meals.

On each of my visits the line was long and proceeding slowly. The first time I was on a clock and left. The 2nd and 3rd times I stayed and was confused by their order process, it seemed designed to slow down throughput.

When a clerk took the order from a customer, they stopped taking orders to go fill the drink requests. So, there was a built-in delay between every order, and if the drink order was large or a shake the process would slow. At one point there were 2 registers running and when one clerk went to fill a sweet tea, it was empty, and they disappeared around back not to be seen again during my visit, leaving only 1 order taker punctuated by every single drink order. Meanwhile another clerk stood by the food and handed that out as it came, they were idle most of the time. It was painful to watch. Please note there were easily 40 persons in line behind me.

As for the food, across my stops I tried the spicy chicken sandwich, fries, nuggets, mac and cheese, tea, shake and maybe a few other sides. They did not seem to have chicken tenders at this location. I was not traveling alone. In each order set the Chicken nuggets were overcooked and the fries way undercooked and soggy. The spicy chicken sandwich was fine, nothing special. Shake was good, mac and cheese ok.

Please note I have been told by others this location is “Not at all like a standard Chick-fil-A”, I have nothing to compare it against. The Albany area will have some openings this year (2023). Additionally, this spot appeared to have staffing issues.

We love Chik-Fil-A and have been to many of the franchises. This one was, by far, the least organized and least efficiently-run. There was an extremely long line of people, which is to be expected. It wasn’t the length of the line that was the problem. Rather, it was the lack of efficiency in the staff. There were plenty of staff there, and most were just standing around. They had ONE register open. The staff were unenthusiastic and not at all friendly. The manager, a woman with blonde hair, walked slowly aground but never did anything to make the service more efficient or encourage anyone to act more appropriately with customers. I can not stress enough how slowly these people were moving. I certainly don’t expect anyone to run, but they were literally just standing around. I was floored because I have always been extremely impressed with how efficiently the Chik-fil-A stores have been run in all the other places we’ve visited. Everyone in line was visibly frustrated but still polite. I hope this location can receive more training and more effective management so that they can improve. Totally disappointed! My first time ever going to a Chick-fil-A. And I will never go back. I ordered the grilled chicken nuggets. When I got them they had three decent-looking pieces on top. Underneath those pieces which actually did not taste good at all, was a mess of something that looked like they cleaned the grill with. It looked disgusting. My friend ordered a baconator. That came with no bacon on it (imagine that). They also had to remake the fries because picking up the bag to hand to me it ripped and the fries fell out everywhere. So as they are remaking the fries my chicken nuggets and his Burger without the bacon on it or sitting in the bag getting cold. Once I went back up there with the baconator which had no bacon they just took it and put bacon on it still leaving the burger cold from sitting there waiting for the fries to get cooked. As I said this was my first experience and my last. Total disappointment completely Chick-fil-A. I do not even wish to receive anything that says free anything we are sorry because I will not even try it again for free. Hopefully this will get straightened out and it doesn't happen to many...
