We thought this was a coffee shop that we could stop by & grab a quick cup to go...
I am actually amazed at how rudely we we’re treated over simple miscommunication. Some friends & I thought this was a “cafe” so we arrived from out of town thinking they sell specialty coffee- not just diner coffee. After we sat down & realized this was not a cafe but a breakfast diner, we were discussing whether or not to leave or stay when an employee came over & snapped at me for using the bathroom. I profusely apologized for whatever miscommunication happened (at the time I wasn’t really aware why she was very harsh towards me) & she responsed with “there’s a Wendy’s down the road if you can please leave”. Then she said they were closing (it was 2pm, they close at 3pm). I continued to apologize & the lady seemed to calm down a bit, but when I apologized to the rest of the employees for whatever happened (I’m still not sure what we did other than realize it was a diner and not a coffee shop) they continued to be rude to us. I have seriously never been this confused or offended by a coffee shop- and I have visited some rude coffee shops in my travels. I’m still so confused as to why there was such harshness towards me in my interaction with this lady & why our business was not welcome.
UPDATE (See response from the owner)
I’m sorry that you feel that way, we actually had access to very well kept restrooms at the church near the wooden cross fest & we were just checking out the local coffee shop (my band and I enjoy checking out local coffee). We were more than willing to throw out our outside drinks (we did, even though the lady didn’t give us a trash can option- we found one outside) & thought your back porch was beautiful- we loved the back porch view! I really am sorry for any offense we caused. I’m sure your food is delicious, but in the future I would suggest there be less immediate offense towards confused customers. My band & I felt immediately unwelcome & I wish that the employees were a bit more gracious with out of town visitors. That being said, I hope this was just due to a...
Read moreI want to preface this whole thing with, I came with a group of 6 people and I’m sure it was overwhelming to the staff. I went with some friends, all of us from out of town, to get a cup of coffee together. We told the host at the door that we just wanted coffee, wanting to be upfront and also with the intention of seeing if there was a to go option, although I don’t think that was clearly communicated to the staff. The host showed us to a table. Our group loved the look of the place and also the back porch and went outside to take some photos. Several of us had to use the bathroom as well. The server came over with coffee and me and one other person told her we weren’t ready to order. I guess our group was deliberitating whether or not we were going to stay, and as my husband was getting ready to use the bathroom he was told “there’s a Wendy’s down the road” and asked to leave. My husband apologized to the staff in the kitchen, that we thought we were coming to a coffee shop and didn’t mean any harm, and they sharply replied and ended the conversation so we left. This experience made me very sad because it seems like the staff grabbed on to a certain opinion of our group and felt that it gave them the right to treat us badly. As confusing as our group may have been, we really did try to be gracious and felt frustrated with how we were treated...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I had breakfast here yesterday and we absolutely loved it. From the outstanding food, to the delicious coffee, to the stellar service- this place is a must-stop. We purchased a sleeve of the jalapeño cheddar bagels when we were there yesterday and unfortunately, I noticed today that they had gone bad. I called on my break at work (as a barista I know that this was an inconvenient time and day to call, but I didn’t have much of a choice). Despite the inconvenience of a call that took a little longer on a weekend during a busy time, the person on the phone went above and beyond to make this situation right. She was patient, kind, and handled the situation with grace.
Because I was visiting and live a few hours away, I couldn’t stop by for a replacement sleeve of bagels, but the woman I spoke to made sure the situation was made right and even followed up to make sure everything was taken care of. It was so refreshing to interact with someone so kind and conscientious. I knew we’d be back to Butterfield’s after our lovely experience yesterday, but after my interaction with this lovely lady, I felt I needed to leave a review for everyone to hear about the kind of people you’ll be interacting with when you stop in here… truly the best. Thank you for rocking! We’ll...
