Finally a smokehouse that knows how to do brisket right! The brisket burnt ends were delicious! Tender and flavorful with a nice bark. The ribs were also very tender and meaty, not too fatty which was great. The corn nugget appetizer was fantastic, a nice crispy batter without being greasy, with tender sweet corn filling, it came with a barbecue mayo dipping sauce that was very flavorful. The pretzels with beer cheese appetizer was another winner, the pretzels appear to be deep fried which was a nice change from most places, the pretzels were soft and warm, the beer cheese was not the usual cheap bland beer cheese sauce that you find in most restaurants, it was a thick rich flavorful beer cheese. The brussel sprout appetizer was a large portion, they were soft and charred, the glaze with the bacon and cheese gave it a nice flavor. The mashed potatoes (which were more like smashed potatoes) were made with real potatoes, homemade.... And the french fries were fresh cut and cooked perfectly. The macaroni and cheese was really good and came out browned around the edges, you could tell it was homemade with real cheese. The texas twinkies were also delicious. Fish fry had a crispy batter, the fish was flaky and soft. Not slimy like some places. (The fish fry here is just like the fish fry at Templeton landing) The potato salad was excellent, all the sides were good. The hog wings were absolutely delicious, one of our favorite things we've tried, we got them extra charred and they were perfect. My friend said the meatloaf was terrific.
There was not one thing weve had here that was disappointing, you can tell that they really care about the quality of the food, this place isn't serving a bunch of cheap frozen garbage like they do at too many restaurants, the food is homemade. The owner came over and checked how our dinner was, he was very friendly and nice. Our server was Tara and she provided excellent service, she was very helpful and went above and beyond. The atmosphere here is a rustic down home kind of place, a lot of wood, cozy small-town feeling. The dining room is connected to another room with a bar and a pool table. Another thing I want to mention is that the seats in the dining room were extraordinarily comfortable. I noticed it as soon as I sat down, usually restaurants have cheap chairs that are uncomfortable, the chairs here had a nice thick soft cushion, so for people with back pain you will appreciate being comfortable while you eat your dinner and not sitting on a hard wooden chair. We will definitely be returning to eat here again, I review new restaurants all the time and I don't say that about many restaurants...
Read moreI heard about this place through the grapevine. My wife and I enjoy going out for BBQ and are always looking for a new place to try, so we decided to take the ride out to East Eden to check this place out. For me it's always interesting to see how a BBQ place prepares their meats. I had the 3 meat platter so i will give you my take on that. First let's talk about their ribs. The ribs at EET&SH are decent. They're tender, have a good smoke flavor, but i had trouble separating the ribs to eat them one at a time because they apparently leave the silver skin on the back of the ribs. What i ended up with was a hand full of bones and a bunch of meat stuck to the skin when i tried to pull them apart! I do give them BIG kudos though for not slathering them in a lot of sauce! Ribs that are cooked properly using a good dry rub, don't need BBQ sauce on them ever! The dry rub they use is ok, it's not great. The rub should have more flavor remaining after they are cooked if they are not going to sauce them. Secondly, their pulled pork was nice and tender, but i just think they serve it with way too much sauce! It is a little sloppy. I would suggest that you smoke your pork, pull it, plate it and serve it! Again if cooked properly after a good dry rub is applied, it will be plenty juicy on its own. Maybe have a couple of choices of sauce on the table, so that the customer can choose whether or not to add sauce, and if so what kind mild, or spicy, and as much or as little as they want. Lastly, their brisket was pretty good but it is also served saucy, and cut way too thin. Brisket should be served cut pencil thickness, and no sauce. Again, if you use a good dry rub, you don't need to try to add flavor by putting sauce on it. Overall i would say that our experience was pleasant. The place is nice, the food was good, the portions were large, and the service was great as well. I will definitely be going back with some friends in the...
Read moreMy fiance & I have had take out from EET in the past. My chicken wings were always meaty & tasty to my liking & my fiance's fish fries were large & she enjoyed them very much, but our last visit to EET was a dine-in experience because we wanted to see what was done to the place since the new owner took over. Well the decor was very nice, but from the time we sat down to the time we left our experience was not so pleasurable. Starting with the waitress; we felt like we were an inconvenience to her coming in when we did, just after the dinner rush (It was about 7pm when we arrived). She returned with our drink oder, & my fiance's lemonade tasted terrible & my pop was on the flatter side then fizzy. We ordered an appetizer (the hot pretzels w/beer cheese). I thought hot pretzels were supposed to be sprinkled w/salt, but not these. We did enjoy them anyhow. The waitress the came with our entrees, with me ordering the chicken wings & my fiance ordered the SMOKED pulled pork sandwich. The wings were definitely better the last time I ordered them, but when my fiance took a bite of her sandwich; the roll on the bottom was so wet(it felt and looked like it was just taken out of a pot a water). We told this to our watress & she explained to us that it was because it was a brioche roll & that their all servered like that. I mentioned earlier that my fiance ordered the SMOKED pulled pork sanwich. We were not aware that that when meat is smoked, it becomes wet. It's not soppose to be like that. We gave EET 2 stars because we thought they lost their zest & can definitely use some improvements. Will we ever return? Maybe, but not until we hear they...
