Hi everyone. I know I have a silly username, but bear with me, there is nothing silly or sarcastic about this review. This place deserves the finest accolades, and I will give my support the best way I know how; through words.
My name is Madeline. I'm a 20-something that's been visiting Door County since I was a baby. I've been to dozens and dozens of restaurants here that have come and gone over the years. I love Door County and its food scene, but I have not been blown away like this in a long time, if ever. I have a literal tear in my eye and hope to have delicious food dreams tonight.
The restaurant was empty when my family arrived, which can't be described as anything other than a crying shame. This place should be full to bursting, with a line out the door and reservations that need to be placed a month in advanced. But the loss of others was our gain, as we had the staff to ourselves. Our waitress was cheerful, sweet, and most importantly, knowledgeable. She deftly guided us from small plate to small plate with friendly exuberance. Each bite ignited our curiosity and had us ordering more.
All the food was indescribably delicious. A perfect balance of fresh and light, rich and indulgent. My favorite was the goat cheese stuffed peppers in a redcurrant reduction. Since there was no one there, I suppose the chef was bored, and sent us a few amuse-bites, which were magical. We were all licking our plates. Then the waitress suggested dessert, and I'm so happy we decided to stay for something sweet. The blueberry panacotta was heavenly and the coffee ice cream with drunk cherries and chocolate curd was just as divine.
When we were done, the chef came out to speak with us! We lavished him with our praises. One of the best experiences we've had in Door County. We WILL be coming back next year, and we hope by then the floor will be bustling with activity. This is a treat that deserves to be shared.
And to those on a budget, not to worry! The prices were more than reasonable-- I was taken aback by the final bill, considering how much food we ordered, including a few beers and wine.
Bonus: I was so happy and well fed that I forgot my purse on the floor. The waitress literally came running out of the doors waving her arms to catch our attention as we drove away so she could return it. Talk about service! Kudos to her!
Please, everyone in Door County, visit Glacier Ledge. Don't let the cheese shop in front fool you, this is not your run-of-the-mill tourist trap. This is fine dining at its best up here on the peninsula....
Read moreUnderstaffed and rude. My mom has dairy, soy, and gluten allergy, (not fad, hospitalization risks) so we asked what she could and couldn't eat. The waitress said she would go check with the chef, did not and doesn't even know the menu. Didn't know goat milk is not dairy, didn't know miso has soy and would not go ask. My mom then went in to ask the manager what she could and couldn't eat, same thing. Sent out the VERY RUDE chef that also doesn't know allergies. Told her she could take the tzatziki and flatbread off the shawarma. She said that that's about half the dish, can I substitute? and he said "it's not, but okay whatever you say" no subbing or price reduction. These people need better training on food allergies. We waited 30 minutes for 3 drinks, two of which never came. Many rude comments, don't come if you don't want to be shamed for allergies. Payed for drinks and left.
From my mom: Let me be clear here in response to the comment below. I told them I had a dairy allergy to cow's milk, and when they insisted that this included all dairy, I corrected them, letting them know it was a casein allergy. The point here is that if you need any special considerations for allergies, do not come here. Using short staffing and answering this comment in that manner makes it clear that there was a "shame on you" attitude. Those with allergies know exactly what their allergies are. Arguing with them while rolling your eyes and speaking I'm a demeaning tone is never a way to treat another person, especially in am establishment that relies on customers to prosper. One of your menu items that had bread crumbs in the ingredient list was listed as gluten free. When I checked with the server, then you, this was verified as being an error on the menu, a clear example of how this interaction occurred. I have celiac disease and it's warrants caution. There are more than enough fantastic places in this county to get service with understanding. You are making major assumptions implying that I don't understand or care about staffing and shortages. I am a nurse practitioner and was a server during my student years. I am well aware, and compassionate about the stress involved in shortages (think masks, protective equipment, long hours, fear of death, actual death of my coworkers, etc). What I am not clear about is why one would make allergies a point of personal bad behavior somehow on my part as your reply implies. It is difficult to eat out safely when the staff have your kind of...
Read moreMy review is a story of two tables. Wife and I had one of the salads, cheese plate and the salmon special. For a shareable plate setup I would have thought the plates didn't come so far apart. Cheese plate was good but came with six dollars of meat we didn't order. The salad had plenty of greens but was very light on the veggies. Also had too much of a dressing without much flavor. The salmon special was not worth the long wait. The shareable plate had a total of a medium size piece of salmon chopped into chunks. The service was not attentive except for people coming by filling our waters. For the price of the food we thought the food and service should be much better. Now onto the other table that was seated after our order was in. Their server was friendly and attentive. All of their plates came together and beat my special out of the kitchen. I can only assume their review will be higher than mine. So if you try this restaurant hope you end up at the...
