This is being submitted by myself for my good friends who do not leave reviews but wanted people to know about this place: "we had been to this place 1 time previous and it was good, not great, but good so we gave it another shot.
This time, my boyfriend and I had invited my mom, and his dad. After 3 of us sat at the bar for about 45 mins. enjoying a pre-cocktail waiting for Dad, we moved to our table. ($46 all in at the bar)
Their specials included prime rib which my boyfriend, dad and mom selected, and I opted for the horseradish encrusted salmon. Long story short, all of our vegetable medleys were cold, the prime rib tasted burnt, not overdone, just burnt flavored, and my salmon, was unusually salty, which overpowered the entire plate.
It took some time before the waitress asked how things were, and we pointed out our dismays. She offered to re-heat our veggies, which we declined. At the end of the dinner she did offer us a free dessert, but after being there a few hours total, our parents were ready to go. ($194 prior to tip). We left feeling dejected. Just prior to us standing up and leaving the manager came by and asked how we liked everything, so we told her. Unfortunately, she felt the need to deflect that it was our doing by not letting the waitress fix things, ok, there is some truth to that and I'm all for the understanding of a business having an off night.... but when you are approached by someone who holds your "come back or don't" power in their hands and they do NOTHING to appease the situation, that's pretty low on their part. Let alone, not even an apology. It's sad, for them, I mean, we didn't want to get anything in return other than acknowledgement. We are a great bunch of people to have in your circle, when you're speaking about food and drinks. It's our finest vice! So sad, but will not be returning due to the poor food, and poorer...
Read moreWE WILL NEVER go to the Anvil Inn again!!! After $75 in appetizers and drinks while asking the waitress to allow some time before we ordered entrees, we asked to speak to a .anager about a menu item and the service. We were denied because "they don't have managers and the owner was busy bartending". We voiced our concerns with the server and she invited us to speak to the owner at the bar on the way out. As we were leaving we stopped at a quiet section of the bar and motioned him over. I got about three words out and he laid into us full force, enough for all the patrons in the place to hear. We were reprimanded by him for taking 45 minutes to order entrées. I didn't think this needed any explanation seeing that our bill was already about $75 before even ordering our main course but I tried to explain that it was our anniversary and we were enjoying an evening of dining out. His response was (at a loud voice) "I don't care if it's your anniversary". Kim had already left and by the time I got to the car she was in tears. NEVER AGAIN ANVIL INN! I hope someone can take control of this staple in my hometown community before this loose gun of an owner ruins it completely. He claims to be in the business for 34 years but he is 3rd generation and only at the helm for the past couple of years. Chatter around town is that he is destroying the family business and I agree!! After I asked him if it was worth the bad review, he yelled out YELP ME! So here it is...
Read moreI absolutely loved this place! The vibe is very intimate, the restaurant is dimly lit with soft yellow light creating a cozy space. The service was exceptional, the staff all seemed kind and helpful. Our sever was attentive. I had the filet mignon medium rare, although the cut itself was excellent, I was disappointed b/c my steak was way over cooked. It was more medium well than medium rare. These steaks take a while to cook, and even though I did eat it anyway I did not enjoy it. I was really looking forward to a bloody steak with hot red center and that is not what I was served. These steaks are not cheap and for the price, I feel it should have been cooked to my requested specifications. My fiancé and his family dine here regularly and have told me getting an over cooked steak happens quite often. So just keep that in mind, if you come here. Other than that everything was great! I also had the shrimp and scallops w/ garlic sauce, I definitely recommend this dish. And for dessert the...
