A real hole-in-the-wall diner.
Not too many place you can still find these days where you can get a cup of coffee and a plate of good food for under $10, but at Michael's my father and I had breakfast for just a little over $16 for the two of us.
Mind you we did only get a couple omelets which come with toast and a couple cups of coffee, but the prices alone should be bringing in the crowds.
If that wasn't enough you got some very friendly sort running the show, a guy who will hang out with you like a friend and talk turkey while your order is being made and after you're done eating. Now that might not vibe with some people, I know myself I am more of a solitary eater when it comes to my meals, but as long as the conversations don't require me to break from my meal then that's fine by me.
As for the food itself, well you got nothing to worry about. The omelets were cooked perfectly, everything requested was made, the toast was nice and buttery, and the coffee was fresh.
So if you want a quick breakfast, under $20, with some light conversation, then...
Read moreIt's like stepping back in time. So glad I found this place. Michael is the owner, waiter and entertainer all in one. Do not go here if you can't take a little playful roasting. When you eat here there is a true sense of community. Michael engages the diner is playful dialog and it feeds into an excellent experience that has been tough to find since about 1992. For example, if you are an old lady expect to be given a grandma coffee mug. Reading other reviews I can see others can be sometimes put off. I get that- if you say that to people in Newark they get pissed and want to fight. This is Fonda/Fultonville though. Leave the pugnacity back in the 212. I truly feel they are reacting negatively to playful banter that his regulars expect and is the reason you go to places like this. Looking forward to bringing some city folk in sometime and watching their reactions. Check...
Read moreCame in with friends since the reviews were good. The guy behind counter is very scarstic, which was rude. Discriminated by him and his minions (probably regulars) snarky comments. We are from out of town and got targeted as soon as we started talking because of our NY accent, like this is new york Micheal. He also did not wash his hands after coughing in them. The food was poorly made, none of us could finish the breakfast. This place doesn't deserve these "good" reviews that has been given. On top of that you are charged to use your card and have to provided a tip. Hopefully that $5 goes to buy someone pickles because he said he couldn't afford them. Smh never again Michael, NEVER. If the mountains call, don't stop at Micheals...
