I brought the hibachi home with me, without the onion tower or sake squirt bottle.
Had a hankering some some asian cuisine but didn't want to just order Panda Express or something, so I looked around for better scored locations and found Oishi among the top.
Ordered online going with the shrimp hibachi meal, an order of the crab rangoon, and spring rolls. All together coming to a little over $32. Was a little worried the order would get cold when I received a notification that it was ready for pickup around 17 minutes before the pickup time I requested, luckily that didn't happen.
When I got home with it I found the paper bag and containers within held in the heat of their respective items pretty well, some of it was a little cooler than I would have liked but not to an off-putting degree.
The hibachi meal comes with clear soup (tastes just like it does at a hibachi), green salad (with the ginger dressing, just like at a hibachi), sautéed shrimp, veggies, and your choice of fried rice or noodles. (I went with the rice) That entire meal was 1 for 1 a hibachi dinner, taking me back to many times I have been to a real sit-down hibachi. Albeit without the embarrassing gimmicks and silly shows the chef will put on, and thank goodness for that.
The crab rangoon was as expected, addictive, almost being polished off before I made it back to my room for dinner. And the spring rolls were alright, probably the least impressive part of my meal, but nothing...
Read moreI ordered takeout online on a Saturday evening. I got Harumaki, Tom Yum Soup, a Spicy Tuna Roll, and the Shrimp Tempura Roll. The total came to $27. My meal was ready in no time and I picked up up right away. The staff was friendly enough during our short interaction. I was glad I wasn't eating in because the place didn't have a particularly warm atmosphere. It was just a small dining room with a few tables and outdated décor. The food was mostly just ok. The Harumaki tasted like it could have been frozen, the tuna roll was very soft for some reason and the shrimp tempura roll had the whole shrimp tail in some of the pieces that had to be picked out. It also incorporated lettuce which just doesn't belong in sushi in my opinion. The star of the show was the Tom Yum Soup ($5.50). It was hot and flavorful and the small bowl had three or four pieces of plump shrimp in in. Overall I was a little disappointed but the soup makes me think there may be some good dishes on the menu mixed in with those that could use some...
Read moreThis is a "mom and pop" sushi shop with a focus on take out orders. You can dine in but it feels like a no-nonsense space and the proprietors concentrate their attention to friendly service and efficient, expeditious preparation of familiar Japanese food. While I was there, all of the orders were to go. They were all called in and I was the only one who walked in to order my food. A thing I noticed is that the age tofu (tempura tofu) was served with a little bit of togarashi (chili pepper spice blend) on the top. At other places, the age tofu is sometimes served with bonito flakes and/or daikon oroshi (grated daikon radish). The shop does punch above its weight in the freshness of fish or seafood used in their...
