Wife and I made it out to Blue Barn tonight for their Thursday evening live music. It's been on our agenda for a while and somewhere we really wanted to try but we don't live nearby. We have tried their ciders and enjoyed them.
Unfortunately it wasn't a positive experience and I can't really recommend anyone else make the trip.
There were some good things The place is very large and can handle a ton of people. They do have a decent variety of drinks so that was another pro. Those two things are about it. Well, and the burger.
We each got a flight for 10 bucks which is okay. We liked some of our drinks more than others, that's pretty standard as well when you're trying new things.
There was a series of negatives though. When you pull in the parking lot is very cramped especially if you have a larger vehicle. This goes double for the parking spots themselves.
You walk into a store selling a few local products and then there's a sign that just says please seat yourself. There's no real explanation on how they have things set up. You just kind of got a guess and figure it out yourself.
We got in line for the bar and placed our order. Now, this is where this gets a little confusing as there's a large bar inside and there's a bar shack thing outside, and you can order food at the bar inside...as well as drinks, but you can also get food at another food shack thingy outside. It's kind of confusing and all over the place... Either way you go to the bar, you go to pick up your food... yet for some reason they expect a tip? This really confuses me as they're not doing anything that would deserve a tip. Most people that we saw bused their own tables but there was a busser. Maybe I would understand if the tip options were like $1 $2 $3. But they're not, they start at 15% and go up from there...
So we took our drinks and found a table. The music was was okay as well, not too loud, Not great but not bad. So our buzzer rang and we went and got our food to bring back to the table.
The fries were more heavily salted than any potato I've ever eaten; pretty much to the point where they were almost inedible. The pulled chicken in the tacos was very dry and the sauce that came in the tacos was very very heavily seasoned. It was just not a good combination. We also got some mozzarella sticks which were okay and the burger which was the only food that was actually good.
All in all, considering it's not easily accessible, it's not particularly affordable, it's not particularly tasty, and it's not really offering you anything that you can't get elsewhere...

Read moreOn Saturday, 3/19/22, my sister and I went to Blue Barn for one of their famous burgers. First time we have been back since before Covid. Will not return again. The burger was very dry and the fries were lukewarm. When I went to the window to pick up my meal, I tasted a fry and told the young man who was placing the food on the counter for pickup that they were not hot or even warm. He apologized and said he would return it. While he did so, I went back to my table to tell my sister (who was waiting for her pager to go off), and went back. My tray was already sitting there and I asked him, are they hot, and he said yes. So I went back to our table (on the other side of the room), and sat down. I started to eat, and realized that the cook(s) just gave me back the exact same fries. They were not hot, and were soggy at this point from sitting around. Maybe the cook was offended and just gave the tray back telling the young man at the pickup window they were fresh (he was completely innocent of this and was very apologetic when it happened). At that point, my sister sat down with her tray and I asked her to check her fries - piping hot!!! At this point, due to the noise and commotion (kids were running around everywhere and in between the tables), she said, I'll just give you some of my fries and let's eat and get out of here. On the way out, I spoke to a young woman who was at the hostess desk, and she offered to call a manager, but I told her we would never return anyway, so I did not see the point, but she agreed to tell the manager. However, I decided to write this review because I wanted to be sure that your management was aware of what happened. I would have rather spent $9.00 at McDonald's for a quarter pounder and fries, than on this burger plate for $17.00. I realize that due to COVD prices have gone up, and that is not what bothered me, but the quality of the burger and fries has gone down and that was very...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place but unfortunately due to our recent dinner experience, I just cannot. I'll start with the positive. Great location. Great concept. Pleasant staff. Enjoyed their hard cider. Unfortunately the negative started on our arrival. We were met at the hostess stand by three very pleasant ladies that could not seem to find the reservation made just a half hour earlier. As they were able to seat us it was no big deal and if that was the only negative, I probably wouldn't even mention it. As the dining room was packed at 6:30 on a Friday it seemed evident that the Blue Barn is a popular spot. No wait staff (which is fine). Customers place their own orders at the counter or online. The online ordering was not explained well. The website has ORDER CURBSIDE PICKUP & VIEW MENU options. Not until, I went up to the counter to place our order did I learn that the CURBSIDE option also meant, I could do that and bring it back to our table. The order took awhile but as they were pretty packed it was understandable. We ordered a burger and a chicken sandwich. Both although tasty were lukewarm. The fries which were hot and looked great were too peppery. ... What stands out more than the food issues is that the dining room is way too loud (with a big crowd) and much too bright. The room desperately needs acoustical panels on the walls and acoustical spray applied to the ceiling. They could cut out most (if not all) the recessed ceiling lights and just have the hanging fixtures lit for a much more cozy atmosphere. ... All this being said, I hope the best for this business. It is needed in this area and we want to support it. We'll try it again in the summer. ... For reference, I am a 40+ year construction professional and have managed the construction of numerous commercial buildings including many for the hospitality...
