âWhere small-town comfort food nearly hits the big city mark!â
Placed my order for pickup and right from the jump, I was met with refreshingly helpful service. The employee on the phone patiently answered all my questions (and there were many) without so much as a sigh or eye-roll I couldnât see. He even gave me his personal recommendations, which I appreciatedâthis was no robotic order-taker, this was a man with culinary opinions.
Soup Starter Series: A Tale of Two Cups Letâs begin with the chicken orzo soupâlight, flavorful, and generously filled with tender chicken and just the right amount of orzo. Itâs the kind of soup that makes you feel like you made a healthy decision without sacrificing taste.
Then came the lobster bisque⌠or what I like to call, âflour stew with a crustacean dream.â It was as thick as Thanksgiving gravy left on the stove too long. The flour flavor took center stage and refused to share the spotlight. I searched for lobster like it was a prize at the bottom of a cereal box, only to discover⌠imitation crabmeat. This is where a little heartbreak occurred. Greenville CafĂŠ, if youâre listening, I would gladly pay extra for actual lobster. Also, a side of crackers or warm rolls would have made the soup course feel more like a meal and less like a missed opportunity.
Entrees That Redeemed the Day The hot open roast beef sandwich was a solid win. A generous portion of tender beef piled high on thick bread, smothered in gravy that tasted homemade (or at least convincingly so). The mashed potatoes? Creamy, buttery, and seasoned like someoneâs grandma was back there with a wooden spoon. The roasted summer squash stole the showâsweet, caramelized, and cooked just right. The accompanying house salad was fresh and crisp, proving someone in the kitchen still respects a good romaine leaf.
Now letâs talk cheesesteakâa behemoth of a sandwich loaded with savory sliced beef and peppers. Packed with flavor and enough to share (but you wonât want to). Next time Iâll ask for extra cheese just to really push it over the edge. Fries were golden, salty, crispyâexactly how fries should be, none of that limp and lifeless business.
Final Thoughts Greenville CafĂŠ is a charming, no-frills gem in the heart of town. If they ditch the flour-heavy bisque and sneak in some real seafood, weâre easily talking five stars. Until then, four strong stars and a promise: Iâll be back, probably with a soup spoon⌠just not for the bisque.

Read moreDespite a steady lunch crowd on Memorial Day weekend, my friend and I were seated quickly and served promptly. The servers were friendly and efficient despite the rush and the atmosphere in the restaurant was bright, airy and upbeat. Tables were cleaned as soon as they were vacated. We ordered a turkey burger and Alaskan cod fish and chips. The verdict was that the burger was delicious, however as mentioned in an earlier review, the Alaskan cod fish and chips were basically just 6 small deep fried fish goujons straight out of the packet, as were the fries, which were poorly seasoned and slightly soggy. I would compare the dish to something off a kids menu - very disappointing considering the price! I was at least expecting a proper piece of fried fish :( Weâll give the cafe another shot and try out the breakfast...
Read moreThis little gem was an amazing find. Very clean and so much character with all the original art pieces on the wall that are for sale. Loved that! We placed our order, and I said I'll be able to judge just by the iced tea that I ordered if the food would be good. Well, I was not disappointed. The tea was bold and refreshing, not watered down at all. Then the food came from a server who was so friendly. The food did not disappoint either. Got my burger, which was done to perfection. That burger was stacked! The sauce on the side is delicious, especially with the onion rings. We will definitely be returning to this gem very soon because I just know that everything on the menu will be...
