Sweet Peas Country Diner — Restaurant in Town of Hillsdale

To start off, we had a not so sweet pea server this morning (4/8/24). She was not warm and friendly, no smile, barely responded when we asked for something, which wasn’t a lot, and had the coffee pot in her hand and passed right by us without asking if we’d like a refill. Since I did not get the offer or another refill, I kindly asked if I could have a to go cup. She did not tell me it’d be a $2 charge. I saw other’s come in and she conversed with them just fine, so I’m assuming when you’re an out of town-er, you don’t receive kind or equal treatment. Either way, the food is basic diner food, eggs were cooked as ordered, potatoes were pretty good, and the blueberry pancakes were decent. Friendlier service would help this...

We had brunch at Sweet Peas this last Sunday, while passing through. It was around one PM. So It was crowded, which is good for them. We did get the only open table at the time. So they were what I would call busy. The service was quite good considering. The food was good. I had Irish Benedict eggs and the potatoes actually had flavor that most places tend to not have anymore. The wife had a wrap and fries which she also enjoyed. The downsides for us. This little dinner seems expensive. But not drastically so. Also there was a constant line for the ladies room, which wasn't optimal. But again, they were busy. Not a bad little place. What has happened to the Mexican night food,used to have some traditional dishes, enchiladas fajitas and an occasional special chiliquiles or Salvadoran puposas. Now there is taco Tuesdays with dishes that no Mexican ever conceived of like Mexican egg rolls or tacos with breaded and fried chicken bits with ranch dressing . The chips and Pico came with every Mexican meal now they are a separate order and charge and the pico was so hot it was inedible. Rice and beans came with each order and now it is not routinely given with each bizarre ingredient taco order. If you want reasonable Mexican food find another...
