My family has been going to Skippers Landing for YEARS. When we heard they were selling it to someone else, we were really sad about it, as this was our go-to local restaurant. Well this evening, my sister and I decided to go and give the new owners a try. Upon entering, it still looks like the same restaurant it always was, aside from a few missing decorations and photographs, and some other changes here and there. However…the very first thing I noticed was the state of the fish tank in the bar room. The fish are quite obviously dying of a bacterial disease, due to inadequate care and obviously high ammonia levels. (I have three aquariums in my home) it looks like their water hasn’t been cleaned or tended to in months. (They require 25% water changes every other week at least). The fishes have lost their color and their eyes are turning white, and they’re floating at the surface, swimming very slowly.
This new ownership got rid of the drink special menus, no longer serve rolls, we were not given the regular water pitchers and glasses, but the table who came after us did. The bar staff did not know how to make a collins, asked me how to make it. We received our drinks, appetizer and soup/salads in good time, however, we waited over 45 minutes to receive our entrees. The waitress during that time did not check on us. I understand she was busy with other customers, but we were blatantly ignored once a table of “people we(the staff) know” came in. They even received their entrees before us. Before we got our food, we decided at that point we needed boxes for our food, so we had to stop the waitress as she was tending to her friends, and ask for the box and check. I will note that she was absolutely busy, but not until her friends came in. The moment our waitress leaves to get those things, our food came out. My sisters chicken had become soggy from sitting under a heat lamp, soaking in a bowl of lemon and white wine sauce and noodles. She reported to me that there wasn’t a lot of flavor to it, and I felt the same about my dish as well. The chicken in my pasta was cooked beautifully though, and it tasted very good, and was tender. We packed up our things, left a 20% tip, and went on our way, pretty disappointed. I’m sad that I will never have a skippers landing cranberry or blueberry collins ever again. I’m sad I will never have skippers landing amazing home-made ranch ever again, or their awesome salad bar and yummy warm rolls. Just sucks, it was our family gathering spot. Rest in peace...
Read moreWe have come to this restaurant a few times through the years when visiting our cottage. It is the only fine dining restaurant on the east side of the bay. Rather than driving all the way around the bay to get to sodus point we chose to celebrate Fathers Day here. Nearly $300 with $40 tip and was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. 6 of us ordered and an hour later we were told 4 had to order something different as they were out of mashed and baked potatoes, broccoli, chicken and meatballs. Originally ordered chicken parm, 2 chicken french, meatball pasta bread bowl and two prime ribs. My husband ended up eating a hamburger on Fathers Day because they didnt have anything else he would eat after he ordered two different dishes that they were out of which upset me very much. Alfredo sauce is too thick and pasta overdone. Prime rib was good. 5:30 reservation and food not delivered to table until after 7pm. Beautiful place but management needs to get it together or sell to someone who can run it right. Never have I seen a restaurant so unprepared for a holiday. Same thing happened to numerous other tables around us. Only good part was our waitress who was very sweet and kept apologizing. Every restaurant has bad days. We have not had this experience here before. Will likely visit again but if experience is the same we...
Read moreWe ate here twice in the past few weeks. Both times with a group of people. I had the charred Ribeye steak the first time. No flavor to the steak just charred. Was not impressed. The second time we were here I had the ribeye on bread but had the bread taken out. Who puts a 10oz steak on bread? And it's the only option on the menu for steak that's not charred other than prime rib that they were out of. Just about every meat they sell is charred. "Says to me they can't cook food without burning it." Anyway, this steak came cold. No joke, like luke warm and cold on one side. I ate it anyway and bam... No flavor. No salt or pepper or anything. Tasted like meat that was rinsed off. I chose salt potatoes for a side and they gave me 2 small potatoes that were boiled "not in salt" with clarified butter on them. "also with out salt." 4 other people got the Fettuccine Alfredo and couldn't eat it. It was way too salty and too much parmesan cheese to the point it was pasty and gritty. The menu is small and way over priced for the food taste and look. About half of the 16 people liked their food the second time we went. The first time was with 7 and 2 of us didn't like the food. This place is not worth the stop and definitely not worth the price. Bathrooms are small and we're...
