I would have given a different review rating until what happened at the end of our lunch. Recently, two of my friends and I went to Franks Grille for lunch. We had no wait time and the food was great. We each had separate checks. Upon reviewing our check we noticed that the price we were being charged for our meal was higher than what was stated on the menu. When we asked the server we got a “deal with it attitude”. “Prices fluctuate. We state on the menu that prices are subject to change (none of us had seen this notation on the menu). We can’t print new menus every month”. We told her we had never heard of this. She said “oh yes, all the restaurants are doing this.” and walked away. No apology or empathy at all – just “deal with it”. This was bothersome, especially the reply and attitude from the waitress. Upon further research this is what I discovered: New York Consumer Protection laws specifically General Business Law S 349 prohibit deceptive acts or practices in the conduct of business. Charging a different price than advertised on the menu, especially without warning, could be considered a deceptive practice. The menu generally constitutes the offer of the restaurant and by ordering from it, you are accepting that offer at the stated price. While some menus may include a disclaimer that prices are subject to change, this doesn’t automatically grant the restaurant the right to charge an unknown, higher price without informing the customer at the time of ordering. If prices have changed, the restaurant has a responsibility to inform customers before they order. This could be done through updated menus, stickers with new prices or verbal notification from the server. If you encounter a restaurant, that appears to be violating these rules by charging a different price than advertised without proper disclosure you can report it to the New York State Division of...
Read moreHad never been to Frank's previously, but friends had recommended it for good food and service. My wife and I stopped in at about 1:30pm on a Monday afternoon as we were heading home through Lancaster. They were busy, especially up front near the bar, but we were greeted on the way in by some regulars who made some menu recommendations and were very welcoming. We were seated relatively quickly in the quieter back room. We were extremely hungry; my wife ordered the crab cake appetizer with steamed green beans and a glass of Chardonnay. I ordered the French onion soup, an order of the Texas fries (with jalapenos and melted cheese) and the beef on weck + 1/2 order of wings--did I say we were hungry? Service was prompt and friendly; food came quickly, in sequence, and hot. The French onion soup was piping hot, very flavorful, with lots of croutons and onions, AND was not salty tasting (one of my pet peeves with a lot of French onion soups I've had). This was about perfect. The Texas fries were great, and not greasy at all, and were addictive. The beef on weck was tender and delicious, and the wings were tasty and perfectly hot. My wife enjoyed her crab cakes and salad. As we finished our meal, one of the kitchen people noticed that the headlights on our car had been left on and told us so. I went out and found our battery was dead. One of the kitchen staff volunteered his jumper cables, and our server pulled her car along side our car and we were able to jump it and get it started! What a great bunch of people at Frank's. We will be...
Read moreDined here tonight and the food and wait staff were great. The evening was pleasant until right before I left. First let me start that we were a party of 7, that had a reservation, placed a large food and drink order and waited patiently for over an hour for our food (it was a busy night for the restaurant and our order was large). After we completed our meal and paid the bill, 2 members of our group were getting our vehicles to pick us up at the door (one in our party has a disability). Upon waiting for our rides, an older man (I assume the owner?) approached the table and told us we needed to leave because they needed the table for another group. I was absolutely shocked by this request as I have never had a restaurant request this of a paying customer (who was clearly packing up to leave). We had not stayed there an excessive amount of time (especially considering how long our food took to get), we were patient and understanding with the wait on food, we were not disruptive and we were clearly making our way out. It’s too bad we were treated this way at the end of our evening. I was discussing with my husband earlier in the evening about coming back and trying other dishes but honestly, I don’t think that will...
