What can I say about Cafe Wren that won’t make me sound like an obsessed super-fan.... hmmm.... probably nothing, so oh well! Cafe Wren feels like home. I didn’t grow up around here, but my family bought a house in the area about 20 years ago. As soon as Cafe Wren opened, it was clear that this little corner of Wisconsin suddenly had something VERY special. We used to visit the area for a couple of weeks a year as a family, and then in more recent years, my parents have moved there permanently. This is why Cafe Wren feels like home to me. I can’t visit Mom and Dad without stopping at least once, and I usually can’t drive all the way home to Michigan without stopping for breakfast on my way out of town. The food is amazing, the art is beautiful, the staff is wonderful. In 15+ years, I’ve never had a drink or meal or treat that I didn’t like, and I find new favorites every time I visit. The soups are to die for, and the lingonberry melt is a literal slice of heaven. I guess that would be my one request for improvement... please consider bringing back the lingonberry melt all year round. But, even if they don’t, this place will always be special to me and will always hold a special place...
Read moreSadly disappointed by the (usually excellent) service. With very few others in the cafe (not at all busy) I ordered breakfast (oatmeal and breakfast sandwich) last week, and received oatmeal promptly. Then, when finished with oatmeal, no breakfast sandwich!?! which I would’ve liked to have eaten along with my oatmeal. With receipt in hand, I had to return to cooking area and remind them of the sandwich I ordered 20 minutes before. The cashier, who was eager to take my order/money, checked the cash register to make sure I wasn’t trying to pull a “fast one”, and get a free sandwich, despite showing my receipt. I eventually received my sandwich with no apology for oversight and more than a small amount of adolescent “attitude”. OWNERS: Please refresh staff on what excellent service is supposed to look like. Also, prices have skyrocketed here….yet another COVID victim! Doubtful of my return/business to this once reasonable, excellent,...
Read moreWe drove 25 miles from east of Webster to have lunch at Cafe Wren yesterday, which tells you something about my in-laws' appreciation for this place. It was one of the most comfortable environments for me for a casual lunch in the area (Fusion in Webster is also good!) and I would go there often if we were closer to it. The Bahn Mi sandwich was terrific, a very well-balanced mix of flavor, and everything was fresh, as was the side salad. The desserts also were very tasty, with a number of regular and GF options. The decor was extremely relaxing and the art (also for sale) was beautiful. The service was excellent. I also loved the adjoining Common Room, even though I didn't use it myself. Finally, the location next to the Ice Age/Gandy Dancer trail seems perfect for bicyclists. My only wish would be that they add some low-sugar flavored water options like LaCroix or similar to...
