I decided to come here the day before Valentines since I know how hectic restaurants can get on that day. There were less people there than I expected. My wife and I were dressed a little more formally compared to the other diners there. Since we have heard it was more of an upscale restaurant. The décor was nice and and well maintained. The pictures of historic horse photos was nice.
We were seating fairly promptly as it wasn't busy. There were plenty of cookies and other baked goods in the display case as you walk in. Our server was named Jess. After a few minutes, we were asked for our drink order. We decided to get a bottle of Pinot noir. We were also given some bread that had a nice crust and a sprinkle of coarse salt on top. Im guessing its made in house. We were given four accompaniments to the bread. They were a butter, an olive tapenade, hummus and a red pepper spread. They were all tasty and went well with the bread.
We decided to order some starters. My wife got the Roasted root salad and I ordered the Calamari. She enjoyed the salad overall and only had minor complaints to it. I enjoyed the calamari as well. It was fried correctly and with a good coating. It didn't fall off in chunks and it wasnt just oil-soaked calamari. It was nice and crispy. The olives, roasted red peppers, banana peppers and cheese went well. A bit typical of a flavor combination but still good. The tomato sauce had a little bit of spice to it which I enjoyed. The plating of it was a nice mound of everything mixed together with the melted parmesan over it. The only thing I would add and its again a typical addition is a wedge of a lemon. Perhaps even sear it or grill it for a touch of additional flavor. Im one of those that like that fresh lemon taste to my seafood.
Our main courses were the Coffee crusted Duck breast and I ordered the Ribeye Steak. My wife enjoyed the coffee crust on the duck a lot. It was also cooked to her Medium specifications. I was offered a small end piece to try. The garlic mashed potatoes were creamy with a nice subtle garlic flavor to them that wasnt overpowering. By the flavor of it, the garlic was roasted lightly or possibly boiled to take out the strong flavor and bitterness out of them. Her minor complaint was the cauliflower as it didn't seem like it was roasted in her opinion. My steak was cooked to my specifications as well. I ordered mine Med-Rare. It had a good sear on it and a light seasoning. Im glad it wasnt overly seasoned as the demi that accompanied it had enough saltiness to it. The fried mushrooms were alright. The truffle infused fries were plentiful and enjoyable. The glazed young carrots were a good size and tasty. There was a small splatter of a red sauce on my plate that I wasnt sure what it was. Im guessing it was an accident from the kitchen. From my many years working in higher end kitchens, a minor change would be in the plating of the dishes. They filled the plates and the portions were good but the proteins were almost on the edges. I would suggest shrinking down the starches a little so you can fan the proteins closer to the middle of the plates so they stay there better. And the visual appeal would be improved.
So overall, We had a really good time for our first experience at Warfields. With only a minor amount of complaints which aren't really that big of an issue. We also were given a free loaf of the bread which we have also been enjoying at home! I would suggest that if you are in the area to give this place a try. Its service was good and the food was also good. I enjoy going out to new places and open to what they offer. I will be honest in my reviews and open with my complaints if you want to ask me more about what they are. My length of time in the hospitality field makes its a bit harder...
Read moreA group of friends and I went to dinner here. We made reservations since we weren't sure what to expect on a Friday night. We were seated but never asked if we wanted drinks. We sat there maybe 10 minutes before a server came to the table to ask about drinks. Took about 10 more minutes before we saw those drinks. They were basic drink orders, too (2 alcoholic drinks, 2 sodas, and an iced tea). Now, we've been there for about 20'ish minutes and were brought out a dip/bread dish. It took another 10-15 minutes before our order for dinner even took place. The restaurant didn't look that busy for our wait to take this long. So now we've been there for about 30 minutes, our dinner order just went in. Of course, it took some time (another 40 minutes) before food started coming out. The Husbands order came out first. He had the pork chops. They were hot and ready to eat. Next, a friend who ordered steak strips had his order delivered. Hot and ready to eat. The other friend and I ordered the duck breast. Our orders came out last, and they were very cold to touch. Cold, like they sat out while the other orders were completed for our table. We don't think they were sat under a heat lamp. Cold all over outside, but inside at the center, was warm. We would have asked the server about it, possibly to heat up, but she never came back. Not even to ask how the food was, not to ask about our empty drinks, she was nowhere. We did eat the food. Everyone said it was delicious. If not for the cold duck breast, the food was great. The odd part at the end of dinner was that it didn't take much time to get our check. Which we just paid and left. This visit was a huge disappointment for such potential. It was our first visit, and it left much to be desired. I wish the duck would have been hot (or even warm) so I could have actually enjoyed it. $50 a meal, and we could barely get through it. The time it took for every single step of the visit, the lack of service from staff, and the cold food, I gave 2 stars. I would love to come back and try the food again, but our first impression just holds us back. We decided that our monthly get-together would take us...
Read moreThis was my very first visit to Warfield’s in Clifton Springs, and from the moment we sat down, I was impressed. Each table was set beautifully, and waiting for us was a small plate with artfully arranged butter, hummus, and olive tapenade alongside a basket of freshly baked bread — such a thoughtful welcome.
We started with the grilled peach crostini, Nonna’s meatballs, and berry salads, and every bite was bursting with flavor. The service team moved gracefully together, making the entire evening feel seamless and genuinely warm.
Executive Chef Mike Griffin even came out to chat with us. He is not only a talented chef but also such a kind, engaging person — it was a pleasure to have a few minutes to talk with him. It’s a really nice touch when the executive Chef comes out and engages with the tables.
For entrées, we enjoyed the evening’s special tenderloin tips and a ribeye. Both were cooked to perfection, plated beautifully, and generously portioned — I even had enough to bring home. To finish, the bill arrived with two decadent chocolate truffles, and we couldn’t resist sharing the crème brûlée, which was as stunning as it was delicious.
Though the weather kept us indoors, the atmosphere inside was charming, and our table gave us a lovely view of life in downtown Clifton Springs. Between the gorgeous food, the warm hospitality, and the elegant yet inviting setting, Warfield’s is truly a gem. I can’t wait to return — next time hopefully in...
