We were visiting with family locally and were deciding where to go. The elder picked 'The Moose' cuz it has great soup options. In winter the deck was a bit slick which is the closest door from the larger parking lot, but clear. The lodge feelings are still there with the giant Moose head, a fireplace by the high top tables, the wood on the walls as chair rails. Our server Jane was wonderfully personable, efficient & knowledgable. We arrived shortly after opening on Sat eve w few others here & there so easy to hear and converse. We ordered the Wisconsin Chese curds, YUM the white cheddar cheese was melted and delicious, the crispy fried outside were a perfect fry. Not too heavy on the breading, served w ranch dressing for dipping. Then the basket of bread with options - the dill rolls was crispy outside then warm and tender inside. They were so good we asked for more with the to-go order of the Elder's favorite Chicken, Bacon Ranch Mac'N Cheese - a thick creamy mac'n cheese, plenty of true bacon crumbles with a suprising nip of ranch and crispy fried onions on top. A short time after the appetizer was finished our orders came the elder's Parmesan Crusted Salmon w a side of steamed veggies, my husband's roast with potatoes. He also let me try his side of lasagna soup - delicious tomato based w flavor of a great lasagna; beef, riccotta cheese, noodles, and a creamy tomato sauce base. My Chicken Ceasar Cobb Salad ~ crunchy fresh bite sized Romaine lettuce, a perfect just past soft boiled egg, true bacon crumbles, diced tomato, cubed grilled chicken, and shredded parmasan cheese. This is uniquely served on a small cookie sheet, at first confused BUT the BEST serving choice as the ingredients are portioned to the 4 sides of the lettuce & parmasan! YOU get to mix the salad yourself! GENIUS! Plus cuz it is a HUGE salad to pack the leftovers - you can use the parchment paper below it to pull them into the to-go container. My only issue was the croutons had sat in the grease a bit too long, but I usually skip them anyways so not a big issue for me. As we finished up to go they got real busy - most every table was filled w arriving diners. While waiting for our check which comes w custom Moose candy, it got louder and louder as more hungry folks came in, so we were glad we were done w most conversation and...
Read moreWe have been going to the Moose Inn for over 10 years.. but the last two times we went, this were less than great. This last time was our final straw. We arrived and were told our wait was 30 minutes. Fair enough. over an hour went by, so we inquired when we were to be seated. The snobby older lady hostess tried to inform us it was rather busy so wait times were long.. I understand this (duh it's Friday), but when you say 30 minutes, and its 60 minutes...I have a right to question it. We told her we were going to walk out and surprise, wouldn't you know we get seated. The salad was plain,.. nothing on it?? not even a crouton. Coleslaw was warm and disgusting. Our waitress did not even come to check on us. When she did, I expressed my frustration, no apology or a free drink from the bar. By this time we had been waiting for 30 minutes at our table... seriously.. deep fried cod and shrimp do not take that long. I complained again, and as we stood up to walk out, or food came out. My shrimp tasted like It was dipped in lake water before we received it, and my husbands fish wasn't much better. Our waitress never even checked on us, we had to flag her down to get more fish! I expressed my disappointment to the old hag hostess who again gave us the cold shoulder. I think because we weren't "regulars in our 60's or 70's" or a big group she didn't give a rip. We originally had plans to bring a large group in this Friday. I have since changed our plans and told everyone we will...
