I drove by this place a few years ago when I was in the area picking up something I bought. We decided to stop by and have lunch. It was soooooo good. Fast forward almost 3 years later we moved basically around the corner and had stopped by twice and they were closed, I could not find anything about them closing, so last night 12/12/23 we decided to stop on our way home from work and having to do a quick stop at Hannaford. I had a friend post he was there doing a Toys for Tots event over the weekend. They were open, Now you can get burgers anywhere, but the first bite brought me back to the very first time I was there. The phrase it was as good as I remembered. This is true as the first bite of this delicious burger brought me right back to the first time I stop with my new girlfriend and he we are again 3 years later and engaged. As I said you can get burgers anywhere but these just taste so damn good and it all the burger joint I've eaten they don't compare to these. Juicy is an understatement! These ooze with tasty goodness not found anywhere imo, the fries are season just right and taste different than other fries. It's just good food with a decent selection and a few you would not think you would find at a burger place like soup of the day of lobster bisque, salads and more. If your heading to the store to do some shopping (Don't shop on an empty stomach) or stopping at Ace for stuff etc, do yourself a favor and stop here you will not regret it! The taste is indescribable the taste just blows me away! I will be back there again and again now that I live close. Sorry to drone on but these are some delicious burgers cook how you want it red, pink or brown...
Read moreUPDATED: I don't know what's been going on with this place but has it ever fallen into decline in a short time. We went this past weekend and it was the second or third visit in a row that was lackluster. Fries still taste good but are often hard or rubbery. Burgers--even when ordered "brown"--are dripping blood juices on the plate; order it "pink" and the meat is very red. The tables, chairs and floors are either sticky or slimy, and they're afraid to turn the air conditioner on. (The one summer, it was dripping humid and hot outside...and just as stuffy in the joint. We got horribly sick from a carryout order that day.)
Checkout their restaurant inspection record, back in February they had multiple "non-critical" issues, all involving cleanliness--and sadly, it shows. Get it together, JB, we used to love you.
ORIGINAL 5★ REVIEW from 2017: Love this place. Our favorite burger joint in the entire region. Presuming you're eating-in, the experience can vary based on when you come, but the service and food (ESPECIALLY those fries!) are always exceptional.
If you hit those lunch or surprise weekend crowds though, it can feel quite crowded pretty easily despite having quite a few tables more than the average, say, pizza joint.
Did I mention this is our favorite burger place in all of upstate NY? It was worth mentioning a...
Read moreThis place has the best burgers in the NYS Capital District. A visit there this past weekend confirmed that opinion for me. I had not been in several years but it is just as good now.
It definitely qualifies as a "joint." There is counter service ordering, then they bring the order to the table. The service has usually been good when I've gone, but be mindful that they will cook your burger to "red, pink, or brown" instead of rare/medium/well done, and neither I nor anyone I have ever gone with has ever ordered a burger done "brown." It is reasonable to think they would take longer to prepare.
They also have chicken and fish selections, and a good variety of sides (sweet potato fries are recommended). One weak spot is the limited beverage selection. As someone who avoids high fructose corn syrup, I had only diet sodas or unsweetened iced tea (Pure Leaf) to choose from. I settled for a small fountain lemonade (which had HFCS), but the place could at least stock some other Pure Leaf varieties, which contain natural sugar.
Nonetheless, JB&M gets an overall 5 based mostly on the quality of...
