Gave this place a try... intentionally... as part of a quick vacation trip to the area. The location and atmosphere near Lake Wissota was pretty cool. We got there for a 6:15pm reservation which they accomodated earlier for us. The staff were welcoming, hard working, and professional. A band was playing and through the cool garage door openings by the bar... it was a really good vibe. We had a couple of old fashions and they were very good. The drink menu is excellent and old fashions are are a featured category... they know what they are doing. Unfortunately, in the category that mattered most (to us) for a supper club (food), it was very average. They substitute a full salad bar for the typical "relish tray" which is a great feature. We were impressed by the salad bar, but also confused. The staff kept it organized and stocked. The iceberg lettuce had too many brown pieces not picked out, but the spinach salad was awesome. Bacon toppings were just a mush of fat and looked uncooked. There were great looking spreads, but no crackers, bread sticks, or breads anywhere. They had a great selection of dressings with crumbled bleu cheese. Dinner came with cheap rolls (more like buns) that you can buy for $1.99/dozen at any common grocer. This was a big miss and a waste of calories... a basket with high-quality, crusty rolls would be a smart improvement. I had looked forward to the duck, but they were out which was really disappointing, so I switched to walleye. Get it baked, it will be way better. Despite assurances the fried walleye only had a light coating, it was not so. However, it was a very nice-sized 1/2 walleye and was flaky and tasted really good (after peeling away the deep fried coating). My wife had a tenderloin fillet which was way overcooked, but still tasty. She ordered twice-baked potatoes, but it came out missing the best part... the twice-baked skin. Regular baked potatoes looked awesome (as we looked around at other tables near us) and were served with the potato skins. They offer desserts, and they sounded really nice. This meal could've been really good. With a few special, intentional and subtle changes to the salad bar, breads, and menu it could be really awesome. Prices were decent... bumping them up for upgrades would not be a problem. We would try it again (if in the area)... and hopefully have the duck. But, the food is not worth a special, out-of-the-way trip. Too many other good supper...
Read moreI had high hopes for this place, since I love middle of nowhere Supper Clubs, but I was less than impressed. The unique service experience was kinda fun. You arrive and place your order when you request your table, then when your table is called your salads are already waiting for you. It’s a pretty efficient way of doing things. However, that was the height of the experience. The Atmosphere was just fine, but nothing to write home about. As we waited, I ordered the compulsory WIsconsin Brandy Old Fashioned…and was disappointed to see that it was the most basic of pre-made mixes…no muddling, no fruit flourish. Boring.
The food was mediocre to passable. I ordered the large ribeye and it looked a little grilled and charred, but on closer inspection it appeared pan fried and finished on a grill for grill marks. The underside appeared to be sitting a while because it was wet and there was no noticeable sear or grilled surface. I ordered the mushrooms on the side and those appeared to be boiled in a broth that tasted like they just picked it up and the nearby grocery store. Not very tasty.
My wife ordered the roasted chicken, which she said was fine, moist, and the breading was crispy. However, the fries that came with were cold. My son had the Mac and Cheese…his go to. He was happy because it was basically Kraft Mac and Cheese. However, I’m really getting tired of placed describing a Kraft Mac Dinner as if it is the height of culinary experience in the menu.
The most enjoyable part of the food was the Breaded Fried Onions. We ordered a small and it was plenty. Which is good because once you got past the top layer the middle and bottom were soggy and not enjoyable.
Ultimately, I’m glad I stopped, but I don’t plan...
Read moreFirst time coming here for dinner for my fiance birthday. Well for starters on a Sunday night it was packed. Didnt know you have to order your drinks from the BAR. After all we don't drink. With that being said, it took 1 hour to get our order in because I had to get up and find a server to TAKE our order and then it took ANOTHER hour and a half to actually GET the order. Drinks and appetizers are served on one side of the place, you have to walk around and get the food served on another side of the place. Now about the food LOL. My fiance is big on steak so he ordered the Porterhouse and I had the T bone first of I like my steak well done but on the MENU it states "Its not the fault of the restaurant how the food LOOKS if its well done". I thought that was real funny when I asked the server she stated "Yeah that can happen with the looks it depends on who is cooking that night. Not something you should tell a customer. Beyond that my T Bone was so rubbery it took me 25 minutes to chew ONE piece that I tried cutting with a knife. I forgot to mention the A1 steak sauce sitting on the table. Usually that's a red flag to me because a proper cooked steak does not need steak sauce. The bread they set out on the table was HARD as HELL. This is not a place for people with DENTURES to eat LOL thank God I don't have any I asked the server may I please have soft rolls. The only thing IMO was good was the salad I mean what the hell you can't screw that up. My fiance did like his porterhouse but hated the baked potato. Well there you have it $85.00 well spent will not be returning. The two stars is for the size...
