Matson's Deli & Cafe — Restaurant in Town of New Windsor

Over the past few months and my experience at the very least, this deli has gone downhill and is no longer the Matson’s of old I am so very sad to say. I ordered a bacon, egg and cheese today on a toasted garlic bagel. My bacon was undercooked soggy with grease and overly chewy . My fried egg was runny not a good runny and I didn’t ask for it that way either and my toasted bagel was not toasted. This is not the first time I’ve gotten a sandwich or food from here and the quality was highly lacking since I’m being honest even the coffee has turned to sub par quality. Finally I appreciate the owner’s liveliness and charisma, but there is no reason or need to bring religion into a place of business l. A simple “God Bless” may be habit or a courtesy but not everyone wants to hear it or appreciates the gesture and is annoying honestly. Overall I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back the quality is sub par as of late and service is severely lacking the wait to order is out of hand and unorganized. I had a very disturbing experience at Matson’s Deli that left me feeling racially profiled as a young Black Amazon delivery driver.

When I came in to deliver a simple package of chips, the older bald man immediately questioned my position as an Amazon worker, spoke to me rudely, and ignored me when I asked for the recipient’s name. He then suspiciously examined the package as if something was wrong with it, gave me dirty looks, and continued to question the delivery for no valid reason. After repeatedly dismissing me, he finally said “have a good day” in a passive-aggressive tone, which only added to the disrespect.

The most concerning part was that after I left, watched me closely walk to my car, and stood there staring at me until I drove off. The entire interaction was hostile, unnecessary, and made me feel unsafe.

His actions have been reported to Amazon because of how unsafe and uncomfortable this experience was for me.

No worker should ever be treated this way for simply doing their job. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, and it reflects poorly on...

I hate that I’m even writing this review, especially since they are a local business and I try supporting local businesses when possible. All I wanted was a simple bacon and egg sandwich. I walked in around 11:45 AM and was told breakfast sandwiches are not made after 11:30. Now I can’t say I understand the food industry as I am not in that field. I am however in retail and I don’t chase business away. Food is being prepared everyday at this establishment and I can’t wrap my head around a stove or grill being shut down after a certain time in the morning. I’m just very disappointed and I don’t know if I can go back or even suggest anyone go there. I’m also fully aware that my egg sandwich wasn’t putting them in the black zone financially.
