I read a lot of very positive reviews so I decided to drive 45 minutes to give this place a try. I very seldomly find a decent Puerto Rican restaurant near me so I was excited to try this one.
First impressions were it certainly has a small PR restaurant vibe and decor. The menu has a decent amount of items on it but I had already decided what I wanted to eat before making the drive. I love steak, and more specifically I love Churrasco, so I decided Churrasco was the one thing I had to try. Unfortunately with my luck they didn't have it that day so I pivoted and decided to try their Pernil Mofongo with garlic butter sauce and I grabbed their "pick 4 sampler" to start things off.
For the Sampler we did the Beef and Cheese Empanadas, Tostones, Fried Chuletas, and they surprised us with Alcapurrias (asked that they pick the 4th). The empanadas were okay, I have certainly had better but they weren't bad. The chuletas were good, crispy but still tender. The Tostones were pretty good also (I'm not a big Tostone person but I enjoyed them). The Alcapurrias were my favorite part of the meal. It was my first time trying them and I wish I had done so sooner.
My Pernil Mofongo was okay. The Pernil was soft and juicy. The mofongo itself left more to be desired, to me it was too dry. The garlic butter was was very heavy but not had.
I was really hoping for some mojitos or something on the menu but I settled for some Kola champagne and it brought me back to childhood.
Overall it was a nice experience but the food left more to be...
Read moreFirst off, have to say food is really really good! We were in NY from NC for a short trip and this was the first place we hit after driving all day. We got there 1 hour before closing and seemed like the waitress was not as friendly as I would think to earn a possible extra $10-20 tip (no one there) an hour before close is plenty of time for a group of 3. My daughter wanted the Tripleta fries because they do not have them down the south and 10 mins after we ordered all our food, the waitress comes out and says they don’t have Fries so can’t make them. The whole reason for us going there. She told them no thank you (for anything else she would pick ours) then when all food came out they said “we had a little bit of fries” and made her Tripleta Fries with about 1/3 of regular portion and they made a comment how it is “much smaller” still definitely enough for one person but we were all going to share. We were so thankful and she was happy but when we got the bill- noticed they charged the full price! Disappointing! All in all amazing food and we were still happy! Then also saw the credit card charge (did not say anything) I would have liked to pay cash instead. If there was a sign, or posted menu I did not see that.

Read moreI walked in with a friend, we were the only ones eating in, waitress was very sweet but they were all more attentive to outgoing orders. All we asked for was a soup which was cold, had to ask them to heat it up, asked for some rice for the soup and some avocado...came so after the soup, I asked for a chicken empanadas which was over fried and a pork sandwich. All the food took too long to get to us, I patienty waited for the pork sandwich for about 34 to 40 minutes, I had to leave so I asked for the bill , they said the sandwich was on its last toast for which I still waited for another ten minutes. It was properly toasted. There must've been like 7 to 8 people walking in to pick up orders, so like I said they were more concerned with them then just two people trying to have a simple lunch. Sad to say but because of the service I won't be going back and I wouldn't even try to order out either. I thought they would be the original owners of "Sazon Boricua", but the waitress stated they were different owners and that explained alot. Hope they continue to have success with their outgoing orders, Perhaps us being the only ones eating in should've raised a...
