We wanted to try somewhere different and support a local business. Candy Apple Cafe had some nice reviews and the parking lot was busy (generally a good sign) so we decided to check it out. Once inside we were told to seat ourselves. Our waitress was bubbly and super friendly. The menu had a lot to choose from. The prices were very reasonable. These were some strong positives! The negatives on our visit were mostly on the physical food prep. Where we sat we could see the plates being assembled. I saw a guy preparing without gloves (less hygienic then I would prefer) but more importantly also some him put chips on a customers plate and then take some off and start eating them. I have to admit I did not find that appealing. No hand washing after and then on to the next customers plate. The location is a little dated, but maybe in some way adds to the throwback charm of the Candy Apple Cafe. The food itself was very good and came quick. Were we not disappointed overall, but also felt somewhat disappointed at the same time (based on the above).

EVERY time I come here, the place is busy. That ALONE should tell you something. Despite being consistently busy....the wait staff are courteous, pleasant, and responsive. The menu is vast, and I've had nearly* everything on it, at least once. *I am NOT a fan of eggs ANYWHERE, so I can NOT make opinions about their eggs. The cook staff know what they're doing. The food is always at the right temperature, the portions are always generous (for a guy my size to say that, should mean something), and is consistently flavorful. When it comes to pricing, you would be hard-pressed to find a better value for your hard earned dollar. This restuarant is an Akron icon, and is such, because they know Akron is a town where people are family, and money is generally tight. Their prices resemble those not seen in restaurants since the late 90's, early 2000's. In my humble opinion, this 5-star review is well deserved. This place is a GREAT choice for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Since Mary's Good and Plenty is now closed in Akron, this place seems to be the next best option for a hearty breakfast on a Saturday morning. The hashbrowns were excellent. I chose the variety with peppers and onions mixed with the potatoes. With some tables blocked off due to social distancing, they were filled nearly to their reduced capacity. Service at breakfast time was quite slow. We arrived before 9:00, were offered coffee about 9:10, and were served at 9:40 - fine if you are having a relaxing morning with friends, but perhaps a problem if you are on a schedule. In our case the food was worth the delay.

My daughter and i had breakfast here recently, i had been wanting to try it for awhile. We seated ourselves as we were told we could do, no big deal, but it took several min for our waitress to bring the menus, never asking what we would like to drink when she did, and when i said ty as she put down the menus, she said nothing and walked away. We waited over ten min for her to come back to take our drink order, and listened as she waited quickly on others who came in after us, all along walking right by us for over ten min completely ignoring us! She only had a few tables too, so it wasnt a matter of being swamped. When she did finally decide to take our order she wasnt pleasant at all and once again i nicely said ty, she turned and walked away! The food came out quick, the ONLY good thing, I thanked her again, she said nothing except for a sigh like she was sick of me saying ty, and walked away! There was not even the normal..do you need anything else and/or, enjoy!.. she just turned and walked away. She never checked on us until she saw we were done, but we watched as she checked on everyone else and was pleasant to them! We finished rather soon, maybe within 20 min, spending most of the time talking about the food and service and what should we do bcuz you couldnt even eat most of our breakfast as it was absolutely disgusting!..but we didnt want to make waves per say..we already had an attitude from her for whatever reason. I've never had such terrible food in my life honestly. I paid 20.00 for two breakfasts we could only muster down very little of! Idk if its all regulars there and they dont "take to new faces" or what, but i cant think of any reason for the rude behavior from her. I know as a former waitress years ago that your tips are most of your pay! So if you want to make money, you kinda need to be friendly!..and you just should anyway, your in hospitality! And if you cant treat everyone pleasantly and your going to look absolutely miserable waiting on someone, you need to find a different job, really. I couldnt have been more polite, so i did not deserve to be treated like that, or my daughter. I usually give all the benefit of the doubt bcuz you never know what is going in with someone but when you can see and hear its only toward you, what the heck. And whoever cooked that day, they need cooking...
