Gannon's Isle ShadyBrook — Restaurant in Town of Onondaga

What can I say about Gannon's that hasn't already been said? I first heard about it on a list of the 25 best ice cream places in the world. Needless to say I was skeptical. I mean, how good could it be right?

Turns out the list wasn't totally food of malarkey. Definitely some of the best ice cream I've ever had. You can taste the care that goes into it. I've tried about a dozen or so flavors at this point, all good. I'm currently partial to the sea salt or cake flavors but that usually changes because they're constantly rotating in different flavors. I've never tried the milkshakes or soft serve but I'm sure those are excellent as well.

As for the decorum, when you walk in, you might question whether someone spiked your coffee with acid in the morning. Crazed looking ice cream people line the walls in a variety of bizarre situations. But there's a certain charm to the amount of effort that went into constructing the vibe. Besides, if it's too much for you, you can go order outside. Worthy of note is that there's another one on Salina street as well. Don't confuse the two if you want the full experience.

Overall, portions are massive, prices are reasonable, and the staff is very nice. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try. Just make sure you sample a few flavors before you...

They make their own hard ice cream and have a lot of flavors. I wish the mint had more pizazz than just big chips, because mint chocolate combos are my favorite. Coffee is my second favorite, and I believe there’s 3 coffee varieties. Espresso chip milkshakes are my default there. There’s also soft serve and you can take pints of homemade to go. This location is like a big shed that you wait in line to enter. I think they can serve 3 or 4 people at once so the line moves kind of quickly. There’s no shortage of employees. Parking is good. There’s a few spots to sit or stand under a tree. I’ve been here many times over 20 years, and it’s always tasted very good. Worth the drive across town...

I had the delightful,pleasure of stopping at this place for ice-cream in July 2017. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. There were a lot of choices and they allowed me to choose various flavors. I had the best tasting ice-cream ever in more than 40yrs of eating ice-cream. The flavors I had were so nice and refreshing. Normally I have problems with ice-cream a few minutes of eating it,but this wasn't the case,and I was sitting there with my family,taking my time to savor every bit.
