Krista Lyn (* doesn't recommend The Ship •) Our 7:30 reservation last night, ended up being after 9:00, even though we reserved the table weeks in advance. Our other friends, called the day prior to request a table next to ours. They arrived at 7:15 & were seated immediately.
As it turns out, many people seated themselves, and the staff didn't bother to address the situation. The very young hostesses, kept adding patrons to the waiting list, not realizing that with such a big crowd at that point, people should have been turned away.
On top of finally being told we would be next to be seated, the staff carried in a picnic table to allow patrons to sit. When I questioned it, the server said (in a very snotty tone) that the table was brought in for whoever wants to sit there.
When we finally did get seated, one of the servers came over to our table and literally threw a handful of drink chips on our table and said "just don't leave a bad review." At that point, two people in our group decided they had enough of the chaos and left before the band. (Not to mention, we are friends with most of the band members)
Ok, decent. We got free drinks. However, the $16.00 clams casino which consisted of 2 1/2 clams, were burned and tasted like over salted bread crumbs.
I am also pretty sure, that they were overcapacity. I understand that they are "new," but they clearly have a lot of training to do for their staff. Not to mention that they were very ill-prepared for such a large crowd.
(Kudos to Welcome Distraction being such a very well-known, extremely talented band)
It is highly unlikely that our group of friends, which was very large, will ever return. I am glad Tom & Joanie weren't there, or if they were, I didn't see them, because they definitely would have gotten a few ears full, as there were many people that had the same "mix up" with their reservations.
On that note, I tipped our servers very generously, as I used to work in a couple of very busy restaurants, including management positions, so I know exactly what it's like to be on that side of things.
They busted their humps to keep up and did it with a smile. That is not easy to do, which was made apparent by flying drink chips. The place looks amazing & has so much potential. Hopefully a lesson has been learned and this won't...
Read moreWe were very excited a few years ago when they were renovating and reopening as The Ship, it looked great inside, beautiful location, close by. It was nice to see some different items on the menu too! However, we will probably not be going back after several poor experiences since. A couple of months ago we heard about a band on Sunday, thought we'd go check it out and have a late lunch/early dinner. There were conflicting times posted for the band but we hoped it would work out. There was no hostess but several little kids eating fries at the entrance. After waiting a few minutes for an adult, we finally walked around inside to try to get a table. We stood at the bar for 10 minutes to ask how to get a table, the bartender ignored us completely, it was not really busy, there were customers but it was not busy. Several waitresses walked by and I tried to get their attention to no avail. So we just left. Last Friday, wanting a fish fry and some seafood snacks, we decided to call for takeout. I waited quite a while at the hostess stand to pickup my order. The hostess went to seat a couple that walked in right ahead of me, I saw them get seated on the patio and then she didn't come back to me. Another hostess walked through, answered the phone, ignored me and kept walking. Eventually one of them came back, went to check on my order, came back and said it was at the bar and I had to go there. My fish fry was nothing to speak of, tasteless fries and I see now on the menu, I should have received coleslaw but didn't so it was pricey. My companion ordered a bowl of clam chowder and clams casino. Definitely did not receive a bowl! It's the standard Buffalo fare you can get anywhere except it's not good quality and the poor service really gives no reason to go back. Again, it's really too bad because it's a beautiful location, we'd love to support another...
Read moreWell. Where do I begin? I really hate giving a terrible review to a local establishment, but I'm going to. That's how bad it was. It was a Wednesday so we didn't think it would be to crowded or slow because it's not to crowded. We were wrong. We were told to seat ourselves, I don't like that as you never know if the server sees you as a new table. So we wait about 5 to 7 minutes before anyone even came out to the outdoor seating area. But no one has acknowledged our presents . Maybe 10 minutes we get a server to ask for drink order. Many minutes pass before drinks are brought out. The smallest cup possible with maybe 4oz of diet coke mostly ice at the cost of $3.75. We order our food , nothing fancy just burgers and fries. Many more minutes pass. I asked if we all cold get a refill and she takes my cup and doesn't return with any drinks. Food finally comes out. Mind you, it's NOT busy at all. Maybe 10 tables in the whole place are filled. Food was ok. Burgers were good fries are just ok. No napkins no silverware and every ketchup bottle is empty. She comes back by not for us but she noticed that the ketchup was empty and finds another one , we asked for napkins, they never come. We ask for the check, and she has take out containers and napkins ( no check) starts to walk away and I say nicely "we will take the napkins though " she finally returns with the check. And then gone again. Finally left the money on the table and left. We did leave a tip but I really didn't want to. This is not the first time for this type of terrible service. But it was our last time there. Which is to bad because we live right in the neighborhood. I gave the atmosphere 2 stars because the weeds were so tall you couldn't see the water. In closing, do better The Ship. We were not alone, everyone else had the...
