Those over-the-plate pancakes are no joke.
Stopped in for the unusual breakfast on a day off, since Amsterdam isn't really packed with breakfast locations. Ordered the Greta Garbo, which included a choice of either a single pancake or french toast, choice of meat, two eggs, choice of toast, and hash browns or home fries. Also ordered two cups of decaf coffee, while my old man got some eggs, toast, home fries and a blueberry mascarpone cake slice.
In total the bill came to about $38, a fair deal for two people and all the food that came with the dishes we picked.
This was kinda a late breakfast for me so I went straight at the eggs and bacon like a mad man, wolfing down the hash browns and toast with them before I thought about taking a picture. Luckily I still had the entire table on my side taken up by the pancake, so I didn't feel that big a loss. And boy, was that thing big. A good inch over the plate on any side, about a 1/4 inch thick, and cooked just enough to keep it fluffy. Comparatively, I'd have to say this thing was like at least 3 regular pancakes worth. Goodness.
The old man enjoyed everything he got as well, and we both got refills on the coffee which was fresh and tasty. Afterwards he surprised me by ordering a slice of cake, but I guess he was intrigued by the mascarpone bit. He's not a sweets man, so him polishing off his plate meant that thing must of been right up his alley.
As for the diner itself, it has a very old school vibe. Booths and tables, American-themed memorabilia hanging everywhere, a juke box in the back, and regulars who sit...
Read moreI went with my family the other night for dinner with Bluey. I was disappointed that in the advertising for the event it was never listed that the menu was limited & in listening to surrounding tables I wasn't the only one that was unaware of this.
The posted kids menu looked to include a small ice cream, however when I asked about it I was told by the waitress it would be an additional charge. She never told me her name, so I don't even know who it was.
The table we were sat at was uneven- anytime my husband or I moved the entire table wabbled.
The ketchup bottle wasn't opened so I had to open it myself. Which honestly made me laugh.
When the food came out- the waitress didn't know whose plate she had in her hand we were told "you'll have to check to see if it has onions or not"- my husband and I had to swap burgers as they were plated with the wrong sides. The burgers lacked in flavor. The fries were soft and soggy & the mac and cheese my son got was burnt in some spots. The onion rings were probably the only good thing about the meal.
Overall, I wouldn't to again. The quality of the food that was received was not worth the cost. I'm not sure if it's was the limited menu that led to the bad experience or if the quality is always lacking with over priced food.
Excluding tip, we paid $43. I can go to a large chain restaurant get better quality food and pay the same...
Read moreEdit: I am dropping this from a 3 star to a 1 star for being harassed by staff!!!
I would LOVE to give this diner a 5 star but because of one waitress I can't. This bigger woman with Blonde hair (don't know her name no-one wore a name tag) ruined it for me, she was so rude, and over all had this unpleasant attitude and air around her like she didn't want to be there what-so-ever. We sat for a little bit before she eventually came over to took our orders. Her attitude I may have been able to get over and Let go, but her actions I can't. I saw her take another co-worker's tip from his table and pocket it. She actually stole his tip! Like what kind of person does that?! That's incredible rude. I told one of the other waitresses who was actually extremely nice. All in all only that one waitress was awful, but the food was great and other workers there, were amazing! If she wasn't there I'd...
