It was a beautiful and sunny fall day and decided to go on a road trip to see the leaves change color, so my family and I drove around for a few hours to take in the beautiful Wisconsin scenery. On the way back I wanted to try a Supper Club. The Duck Inn Supper Club had great ratings so I was curious to see what the hubbub was all about. Needless to say i am questioning the ratings at this point.

The appetizer we ordered was the Panko crusted Salmon cakes. It was nice and crunchy on the outside, but soft and tender on the inside. It was actually phenomenal, which raised my expectations... However after this dish all the other dishes were downhill.

I ordered the Apple brandy glazed duck and the duck soup. The plate was hot, the food was semi warm, but it did not pair well with the sauce. The duck soup was thick, but tasted bland.

Service needs a LOT of improvement. It took a long time for the waitress to arrive. It was 15 minutes before she got our drinks and orders, 20 more minutes until appetizer arrives, and 56 minutes until soup and salad arrive since being seated. The busboy came and got our dirty plates and silverware, and never brought us new ones. We had to get some from the table behind us. Refills take forever to arrive as well

My mom ordered the potato du jour which was supposed to be caramelized mash potatoes, however about half an hour after placing the orders the waitress came back saying they were all out. A table that was seated after us got their food before us and i happen to overhear the waitress saying "here's your potato du jour".

I returned the duck after a couple of bites, and when the bill arrived- it took 20 minutes and i even had to ask the staff get the waitress and bring the bill- but they still had the apple glazed brandy duck on it. I asked her if she could take it off the bill and her reply was "I have to talk to the boss." In the end it was taken off but more hassle than it needed to be.

In all honesty waiting the full hour to hour and a half for the food to arrive with mediocre quality but wasnt worth it. Service was horrendous and waitress took forever. Will...

We visited the Duck Inn on a trip to Wisconsin (from southern Illinois, in my case), along with my family.

I grew up in Chicago, had family in Wisconsin and like many, I headed north during the summers for vacations, reunions and camps.

I think it would be fair to say that my parents, my brothers and myself were all seeking a nostalgic Wisconsin supper club experience on this trip. It is on that score that I enthusiastically recommend The Duck Inn.

The decor and environment was 100% what I would imagine, but it's all clean and updated and well cared for. The aquarium set into the bar is really cool as well. It looks classic, but we were told that it's a relatively recent addition.

As far as cocktails, I didn't personally order any, but a tried a Wisconsin Old Fashioned that I poached from a family member and it was quite tasty. The drinks ordered by us were all classics, including a Shirley Temple slurped down by my son. My family seemed to enjoy them very much, and they definitely seemed "supper club".

Along with our brandy and whiskey heavy orders, the restaurant's drink menu was extensive. It appears there are a great many very tasty ways to have a drink or two or too many. Particularly of interest were the warm winter drinks and the sweet ice cream dessert cocktails. We didn't order any because we were already eating everything in sight and drinking like Nonny and Da were still alive and more would have been too much. If we visited regularly though, it could be a lot of fun to work through those menus.

For appetizers, we ordered the escargot and calamari. The calamari was amazing. The escargot was...not my thing in the slightest. I was really happy to have had the opportunity to give it a shot though.

My wife and daughter are both fairly picky though and ordered apps as their mains - onion rings and mozzarella logs, respectively. They ate voraciously and the onion rings had just the kind of breading she likes. I tried both and they were great.

My entree was the cashew duck breast - when in the Duck Inn, eat duck, I guess.

I got the spinach salad with warm bacon dressing and it was...

Title: Disappointing Experience at Duck Inn Supper Club

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

I recently dined at the Duck Inn Supper Club and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. While the ambiance and service were satisfactory, the quality of the food fell short of expectations.

I ordered a ribeye cooked to medium-rare, but to my disappointment, it arrived overcooked and lacked the desired tenderness. The kitchen's failure to deliver a properly cooked steak was a significant letdown, as the ribeye is often considered a highlight of a supper club menu. The overcooking detracted from the flavor and overall enjoyment of the dish.

Additionally, the garlic mashed potatoes that accompanied the ribeye were not up to par. They were served cold and lacked the creaminess and moisture expected from a well-prepared side dish. The dry texture further contributed to the overall disappointment of the meal.

On the other hand, my friend opted for the duck, which they deemed as just okay. While it wasn't as problematic as my own dish, it also didn't stand out as particularly memorable or exceptional. It lacked the wow factor one might hope for when ordering a specialty item like duck at a supper club.

While the service was attentive and the atmosphere was pleasant, the subpar quality of the food left a significant impact on our dining experience. The overcooked ribeye and the cold, dry garlic mashed potatoes were clear indications of a lack of attention to detail in the kitchen.

Given the underwhelming culinary experience we had, I find it difficult to recommend the Duck Inn Supper Club to others. While it's possible that our visit was an unfortunate anomaly, I would advise potential diners to exercise caution when considering this establishment. With the wide array of dining options available, it may be worth exploring other venues in search of a more consistently...

Stepping into the Duck Inn Supper Club was an unexpected delight. From the outside, the building's unassuming appearance gave little indication of the cozy, cabin-inspired ambiance within. To make the experience even more memorable, we had the pleasure of meeting Ron Faiola, author of Wisconsin Supper Clubs. A quick photo and signed book were the perfect start to our evening. We originally came for the Friday fish fry, a staple of many Wisconsin supper clubs, but were surprised to find it wasn’t offered or listed anywhere on the menu. While slightly disappointed, we decided to embrace the rest of the menu and weren’t disappointed overall. We began with the traditional relish plate, which set the tone for a classic supper club experience. The cheese spread paired with bread and crackers was a standout—rich, creamy, and a must-try. Initially missing from our table, I’m glad I asked for it because it added a wonderful touch to the meal. For our main courses, I chose the half duck with cherry sauce, and my husband opted for the pecan-crusted trout. The duck was nothing short of phenomenal—succulent, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. As someone who typically leans toward smaller portions, I found this dish to be the perfect amount and would eagerly order it again. My husband, however, found the trout to be decent but not particularly memorable, stating he wouldn’t order it again. While the trout was underwhelming, we thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience. The warm atmosphere and festive holiday decor created a charming and inviting evening. The Duck Inn Supper Club lives up to its reputation as a classic Wisconsin supper club, offering a blend of tradition and comfort with a few hits and misses in the menu and service. Would we return? Absolutely—for the duck, the ambiance, and the quintessential supper club experience.
