Went to Ray Jays for our usual trip up north (everytime we go to Hayward, usually 5-10 times a year, we always make a stop because the owner was always so nice, great staff and amazing food). Last night we went in and we’re completely disappointed. Preston the sever was there and was beyond nice as always and super kind but there was another woman behind the bar we’ve never seen before that was completely rude and pretty much told us to leave. We got there saying table for 5 and she goes well the food is going to take well over an hour. I don’t think your kid will last that long (who says that?!) next there was no clean tables and she said she hasn’t had time to clean anything and she will get to it when she can. We said no worries or rush at all. Food taking over an hour is fine and we just wanted to hang at one of our favorite places in town. We stood there for a bit and the eye glares were coming from her. You could tell she didn’t want us there. I get off nights come but man, it was tough. We went over to a table with just a few plastic waters on and I picked them up. Next thing I know she’s yelling at me from behind the bar, yes yelling, and then runs from behind the bar to tell me to stop. I get if it was glass, it’s a liability. But being a frequent customer there thought picking up like 5 plastic glasses would be ok to help out. We stood there and the remarks kept coming and then she said something else under her breath so we left. We are so sad because we absolutely loved going to RayJays. Whether for summer or winter always had the greatest time. We heard that Ray is handing down the business so maybe that’s why. We won’t be back anytime soon. Highly recommend going somewhere else if you want happy workers to serve you. We ended up going to Rusty Hook and had an AMAZING time! Great food and the service there was outstanding. Ask for Amanda. She’s awesome!
Thanks Ray for the amazing service and food over the years! You always treated us so well and LOVED your food. Hoping you’ll be back to take over. If so please send me a message and we’ll...
Read moreUsed to come here all the time never had a problem. (5-10 years ago). Talk about a wait now (2 hours from walking in to getting our food). We were one of 3 tables that were waiting just to be noticed by the server, finally someone went and got her. All the tables ordered basically the same things, back to back as well, burgers and wings...... table 1 got theirs 30 minutes later, table 2 40minutes, us 1.5 hours later...... I could understand it if we ordered something difficult but it takes no more time to cook 6 burgers on a flat top than it does 2, or dump 3 dozen wings in the fryer instead of just 1 dozen. There was no excuse for that massive delay. When we asked the server just for a refill of our drinks she brushed us off and said she would be back... 20 minutes later we got our coke.... I understand if a place is truly short staffed or is completely packed. There was only 5 or 6 tables with people at them in the whole place. We we're looking forward to a all you can eat wing night but didn't want to wait 2 more hours for a refill of wings.... The wings were actually pretty good but the burgers were only eaten due to hunger...Idk maybe if you sit at the bar or at least in that half of the building you don't get forgotten about like we did, hope they can sort this out before they tick too...
Read moreThe food is pretty good, I used to go there almost every time I was in the northwoods. So why a 1? They have gambling machines in the bar, not that big of a deal. I understand they are not responsible for the actions of others, however, just as they would be partially liable for allowing someone very drunk to drive home, they should also have some responsibility in controlling the gambling of out of control customers. A good friend as a problem, they cannot control their gambling. They go to Ray Jay's and gamble their life away. Bounced checks? No problem, they will collect later, after all, the staff at Ray Jay's are your friends and appreciate you throwing money into their machines... rent money, food money, heat money, all money, they love it! Thought you were going to retire? Ray Jay's wants that money too! Sure, the casinos do this all the time, but places like Ray Jay's are not a casino complex. They thrive because they want you to think they are your friends, they supposedly love the locals... especially when the locals continue to throw life savings into their machines. Shame on you Ray Jay's! You are no one's friend, money is your driving force. In the northwoods, people watch out for each other... you only watch as your patrons lose everything....
